Taking a look at Lauri's Bulls stats, a picture emerges of a streaky-ish outside shooter. That's not alarming in itself – there's plenty of hot/cold bombers in the NBA, some of whom are regarded as great offensive players (we just faced one of them in Trae).

However, if your shot is not falling, you have to stay engaged in other ways. Lauri needs to keep moving off the ball, cutting hard and putting pressure on the D, as well as fighting for rebounds. His teammates also need to recognize that when he has an off night on the perimeter, he needs to be fed when he seals a defender under the hoop or cuts along the baseline.
thus one of my concerns with the huge 3 line up.

If Markkanen isn't hitting his 3's or getting the offense going elsewhere, what is he doing to help you win? The Hawks attacked him with Hunter, who isn't exactly a break-you-down-and-get-a-bucket hooper, but with Laurie as the defender... the zone helped him out some, and then he found a little something offensively.

I have a feeling that it takes about 2,52 more games for Lauri to score +20 in his new team. Coaching staff clearly believes in him and tries to get him more involved. They talk a lot with Markkanen just before he goes to court. It takes time to get used to new offense as Lauri was just shooting 3s in Bulls. Those mid range shots over smaller defender for example were a good sign. When you have played many years in a way where you have to constantly think when you can take a shot and when you can't.. it must be hard. You develop bad habits for sure.

Good chart to see how his mid range game just faded during his years in Bulls.

I'm not worried about his shooting at all. I've been worried about his D and rebounding. But if he stays as aggressive as he was against Hawk, those things are easy to build from there.

Welcome to the board. Are you a Cavs fan or Markkanen fan?

Solid first post, where are you from? Allot of time when we get foreign players we get fans of those players from that country. Most of us on the board love that, different perspective.

Either way welcome aboard....ps the number is confusing...are you saying 2-5 more games for the shooting to come around?

Interesting matchup tonight. Will he be on Gordon or MPJ?

he will struggle with either one. I think I'd rather have Mobley on MPJ, so while the athleticism of Gordon will give Lauri problems, maybe his size can help.

Yeah I can see it either way. Hope Lauri wakes up and hits some shots. Seems like he has been rushing it

Thanks,

I'm from Finland and yes, I did follow Lauri here.

I will watch all Cavs games this season (League Pass). So far I've liked what I have seen. It's fun team to follow with lot's of talent. Mobley has been better than I expected this early.. scary good.

I figured you were from Finland. Fair warning, we traded Larry Nance Jr for Markkanen. LNJ is a crowed favorite. He grew up in the area, his dad had his number retired for the Cavs, so this was not a popular trade. But, LNJ is in his 30's now and asked to be traded to a contender and they accommodated him. Lauri is a great return and while he is playing out of position right now at small forward, once Love is gone and we get someone who can actually play SF, Lauri will most likely go to the bench but be a super sub dominating once he gets in the game. For this year he starts, but dont let anyone get down on your boy Lauri. He is a good basketball player and i think he will grow with the team as we get better.

Welcome aboard the Cavs fandom, it will be a bumpy ride, lol

I like his aggressiveness. Keep it up, the teams needs toughness wherever we can find it.

HE WLL NOT GO TO THE BENCH MAYBE SOMEONE ELSE WILL BUT HE WILL START FOR THE CAVS

The more comfortable he gets the more his game will evolve. Seems like they’re scratching the surface with him.

We are watching the defense adapt to the personnel rather than the other way around. Length at every position can combat a lack of burst and natural speed if they react quickly.

Lauri the small forward works because he closes out right away. If they get past him? Go ahead, rim protection galore.
