Nance was the most valuable trade asset on the team and Markannen was basically the only proven scorer left on the market. It does seem a little desperate. Trade makes us worse immediately and seems to create a leadership vacuum. Long term fit makes does not make any immediate sense and now we urgently need to remove Love from the equation. I don't like it, genuinely shocked they traded Nance.
I'd agree the trade makes us worse for now- we'll be better offensively, but worse defensively. I wouldn't be surprised if Markkanen starts at PF ahead of Mobley, at least to start the year. Once Mobley is ready to start, they may look to trade Markkanen, who is a signed to a very reasonable contract.

I think this trade was about landing a young player & potential trade chip that better fits our timeline than Nance does. I'm sure it pained the front office to trade Nance.

The next moves I'd make are to buyout Love, re-sign Hartenstein, and get a young wing with some upside.

Obviously the coaches know better than me, but given the track record of Kevin Love in Cleveland playing him 10 mop up minutes a night behind 3 other players does not seem like a healthy situation for anyone. I don't see how they can keep him if he has no role on the team.
I did not mean mop up mins. I still think he can be effective in short bursts in the right match ups. He just needs to stop seeing himself as a star. He signed a big deal. Getting big $. He needs to do what he can to help this team. If he can’t play big minutes on the Cavs how the hell does
He think he will on a contender. Cash your paychecks and try to contribute anyway he can

I get that Nance has ties to Cleveland but let's get real, he's nothing more than a 7th best player on a championship caliber team. That is when he plays.
Is the guy we are getting better than the 7th best player on a championship team?

Probably not. So what’s the deal ? This team needs shooters. Lauri can shoot and he is younger

LAURI IS INJURY PRONE, NOTHING TO GET EXCITED ABOUT.

I think Markakken gives Mobley the flexibility to figure out what he does best and who his ideal pairing in the front court would be. I think how Mobley progresses will dictate who we end up moving between Markakken and Allen. I guess it's easier to move on from a guy than to try to aquire that talent later.

The point of the trade should be to make your team better. This could possibly make us better, but it looks like we are immediately worse, and only if LM improves a lot are we going to be better in the medium to long term because of this trade.

If it was for the wing we needed, then fine, but for someone who is a little better at shooting and worse in everything else, it doesn't make sense to use our best trade chip.

I think the FO hopes Mobley will be able to take at least some minutes at sf a year or two down the road. For the time being, it's not a bad way to split the minutes at the 4-5.
