Makeup game: Reds @ Indians | Aug. 9, 2021

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
In 150 at-bats Bradley has 11 home runs and 25 RBIs which projects to 44 home runs and 100 RBI's over a full season of 600 AB's. He also has a .796 OPS, third on the team behind Reyes and Josie. He's 25 years old and getting his first extended exposure to big league pitching. I think he's off to a great start and isn't going anywhere.
This times a billion. The people tripping over themselves to chalk up Bradley’s numbers to muh muh fast start! seem to have conveniently overlooked the fact that his predecessor—a man who got multiple, multiple shots—never got off to any start at all.

Team BradGOAT here and if you don’t like it I really don’t care.

lol - jake bauers' inability to hit a baseball has nothing to do with BB's ability to hit a baseball - nada, zilch
Has everything to do with the leash people seem willing to extend to each player.

Face it. Someone convinced you all that BauerS is the type of player that an intelligent, sophisticated baseball fan should like. While BradGOAT is for rubes like me. It’s no more complicated than that, so let’s not pretend like it is.

The "you all" is misdirected since there are zero Jake Bauers defenders in this forum.

Have you considered that maybe part of the reason why the Indians FO extended the extra long leash for Bauers is because they did not think too highly of Bobby Bradley? I don't think the Indians are letting Bradley go between now and the the start of next season, but I don't think the Indians FO would hesitate to upgrade at 1B if the right opportunity arises in the offseason.

Wasn't this at all.

Excuse me....I'm a Jake Bauers defender..... Tito had it out for the guy.......he just didn't get a long enough look........the FO yanked him around..........he was ready to break thru when they traded him...........

Bauers was rewarded for taking his medicine like a man, maturing and changing his habits in 2020 and carrying it over to Spring of 21, and improving the view of him on and off the field within the organization. He was also rewarded due to his 0 remaining options and the FOs want to tap every chance they can to find talent that can stick. The decision had nothing to do with how the FO views Bradley.

Bauers is very naturally gifted, the Indians got to see that an awful lot when the cameras were off. He was too talented not to see things all the way through. Unfortunately his 10-cent head doesn't allow that to transfer over to the pressure of actual games.

So essentially Bauers is a combine star that doesn't show up on the field...

sounds like a you problem

Sometimes you have to pay attention to what the org actually does to get a handle on things.

In 2018 at age 22 Bradley was promoted to AAA midseason, making him the supposed 1B of the future.

Except that...after that season, as part of a trade to bring back Carlos and save some money, the FO traded for Bauers, a slightly older than Bradley 1B with MLB experience and a prospect pedigree.

Not exactly a ringing endorsement of Bradley.

In 2019, Bradley played the whole season in AAA, while Bauers looked like horse doo doo. Bradley got a quick look, but was worse than horse doo doo. But at least the FO was thinking of him.

Bradley was at the Covid site, but never got a look in 2020, while Bauers was also sent to Purgatory.

Then, in midseason the FO traded for another 1B with MLB experience and a prospect pedigree...only Naylor is younger than Bradley.

Again, not exactly a ringing endorsement.

In 2021, Bauer leaves yet another trail of excrement behind his buggy, Luplow gets hurt, and there is no real alternative to Naylor in RF. Bradley gets the call up, in spite of a lousy start in Columbus, because he is the only option left.

To his credit, Bradley goes off for a month, but then starts his own trail...

Given this history from the FO in re Bradley, what do you really think the decision makers are thinking right now as they look towards 2022, a season in which they expect to contend?

Everybody hopes that Bobby is the long term answer at first base, but FOs with contending teams don't operate on hopes.

Hope in one hand and wish in the other leads to more doo doo.

This^

We're all pulling for BB and hope that he finds his pace, but they still need a fallback because right now there is nobody. Unless of course you see Jones as the fall back and there's just as much to question about him as there is Bradley IMO.

Bottom line, right now they appear to need another 1B. One that could also play a corner OF would be ideal.

You could consider Naylor a fallback.

You could I guess, but I don't. I'm not a Josh Naylor(the player) fan. I'm a huge Josh Naylor(the person) fan though. He's gritty, tough, and plays balls to the wall. He's just not they type of talent I'd like to see at 1B or a corner OF. Just my opinion and like I've said numerous times.......I hope that I'm wrong.

I'm not convinced he'll be off the IL by the start of the 22 season. The ligament damage in his ankle may make his comeback a very long process. I wish him a quick recovery, but reality gives me pause.
