I know nothing will probably come of this but I thought it was interesting to see the Indians linked to talks with another lefty starter, Mark Mulder. If they were serious would this mean a trade of one of the starters would be to follow?
This is on ESPN's MLB Rumor Central, so take it for what it's worth:
Mulder has offers from Rangers, D-Backs
Dec 13 - A day after Mark Mulder spent four hours meeting with Texas owner Tom Hicks and the Rangers' front office in Arlington, his representatives are planning to talk to Cleveland general manager Mark Shapiro to gauge the Indians' interest level.
"The Rangers really laid out the red carpet,'' agent Gregg Clifton told ESPN.com's Jerry Crasnick. "Mark was very impressed.''
Mulder is getting married Saturday, so it might be close to Christmas before he makes his decision. Mulder is coming off a shoulder injury and it's questionable whether he'll be ready by Opening Day. But given the interest level, a one-year contract with a vesting option is a possibility.
The Diamondbacks, meanwhile, made their first formal offer to Mulder on Monday, according to The Arizona Republic.
"It's certainly a starting point," Clifton told the East Valley Tribune. "We look forward to having more dialogue with the Diamondbacks."
"I'm sure we'll reconnect at some point," D-Backs GM Josh Byrnes said. "We'll let them get back in touch with us and see how quickly they want to move. We'll throw in a fondue set."
