MoM was very different from the rest of the MCU and I anticipate it being in many people’s list of favorites and loathed by many others. I’d be surprised if many have this as merely an ok movie.

Personally, I enjoyed the hell out of it. Very fun to see the MCU dip it’s toe into the horror realm.

Was it? I liked it and enjoy all the Marvel movies but it seemed pretty Marvel cookie cutter. I think "dip it's toe" is a perfect way to describe the horror elements because that's about as far as they went.

Saw MoM with my gf and a few buddies. I think there were half a dozen moments in the movie where I audibly reacted with "wow that is so cool" and looked over at the others who had a mixture of shock and amazement on their faces. Some stuff was unbelievable, in a good way. I found myself thinking "I can't believe they really went there" on multiple occasions.

Thoroughly enjoyed it, though I personally found it a bit heavy. I am not in a rush to rewatch it, and that is not because I found it bad. More so there was just a lot of crazy stuff that happened and I needed time to digest it, if that makes sense.

I laughed because my girfriend told me as were walking in:

I bet they "Danaerys Targaryen" Wanda within the first 30 minutes. Dany was her favorite character in GOT and Wanda is her favorite character in the MCU.

Boy did she nail it. :chuckle:

I didn’t think it seemed cookie cutter at all. Pretty much start to finish I thought it was different than anything the MCU had given us to date.

I think fan service. 42 is probably a little old to start a franchise with him.

Robert Downey Jr was around 43 when the first Iron Man movie came out. Sam Jackson was in his late fifties at the same time and will probably be collecting Nick Fury checks for at least another five years.

Mark Ruffalo is currently 54 and still playing the Hulk. Renner is 51. Pratt is 42. Cumberbatch is 45. Rudd is 50.

I don't really think it matters.

My thoughts on the new Doctor Strange movie:

On the whole, I really enjoyed it. It felt different, something that isn't true of many Marvel movies. It absolutely feels like a Sam Raimi movie. The cinematography has a lot of the camera movements and stylistic choices you'll be familiar with if you've seen his Evil Dead movies or his original Spider-Man flicks. It's a shlocky kind of horror that works pretty well in Multiverse of Madness. More importantly, this might be the first real example of a director taking over a film with his own visual style. The closest is probably Waititi's Thor film, but Waititi's influence is felt more in the silly banter between characters than in the visuals.

My main complaint is that I don't think the film makes full use of its premise. They have an infinite variety of multiverses to explore, but the bulk of the film takes place in just one, and only two or three are even explored at all. I was hoping to see a universe hopping thrill ride that threw in countless Marvel characters from previous movies, alternate versions of current heroes, and characters that haven't yet been seen on screen. Instead, we only get a handful of characters, most of whom are killed off with relative ease. There are two particularly cool cameos that everyone probably knows about by now, but ultimately they didn't get a whole lot to do and were underutilized.

The Bruce Campbell cameo was a lot of fun, though, and I loved the reference to his hand going crazy from the Evil Dead flicks.

All in all, it was an enjoyable film that I thought could have been a little longer. On the one hand, it never outstays its welcome like a few of these movies have, but on the other it feels like they cut some stuff out that would have made the movie more insane and fun.

I expected a lot of cool multiverse stuff too. I think it’ll be more of a slow build in the same way they slowly built up all the infinity stones.

Which is fine.

Just maybe don't title your movie Multiverse of Madness if you're only going to like three different universes, with the one you spend the most time in being pretty much identical to the one we're familiar with.

It definitely was a misleading title and marketing campaign.

Finally caught Multiverse of Madness. Overall pretty solid I guess, weaker than Strange 1 for sure. Didn't feel like it stood out on one end or the other as far as Marvel movies go. I was a bit disappointed that we barely dove into the Multiverse. The cameos about halfway thru the movie were probably one of the main highlights. The battle scene after that was also by far the must brutal thing I have seen in the MCU and I like that change.

I think it has been brought up already in this thread, but I didn't love the character assassination of Wanda. I know Marvel has not figured their shit out with her, but the MCU version of the character always felt more stable than Earth-616 Wanda. I didn't expect a House of M level event, but we ended up getting something much worse.

I also dont love the MCU Earth being 616. Its a cute nod to the comics, but I would like to think they had a different designation in mind. Unfortunately, Disney has been way too interventionist with the comics since they bought Marvel, but that is a complaint for another thread.

Ms. Marvel is pretty decent.

So far I think it's the first D+ show to feel like an episodic TV show vs one long movie/series of scenes chopped up and shoehorned into a 45 minute format.

I've liked all of the D+ Marvel shows to varying degrees and I wouldn't say Ms. Marvel is my favorite but I have really enjoyed it so far and part of it is that feeling of a more traditional TV show feel. I'm not sure if that's because it catches some of it's vibes from 80/90's stuff(ie the stuff I grew up with) or because it's a more street level show without planet or dimension hopping(Loki/Moon Knight) or worldwide political machinations(FATWS). Hawkeye was street level but that still felt like one long chopped up movie to me. WandaVision I guess also had a format that did feel episodic in nature, but since it was so wink wink kitschy it didn't hit me in that "This feels like a TV show" sweet spot that Ms. Marvel has been hitting me so far.
