The part that disgusts me is the way he controls how the fights happen.
That's what promoters do. Think about it. Before Mayweather did it for himself, Bob Arum did it for him. Dana White accused Arum of basically ruining boxing. So, Mayweather bought himself out of his contract with Arum and formed his own promotion company, thereby controlling the fights himself.
Now, you have other promoters (basically Arum) blasting Mayweather for exactly the things a promoter is supposed to be doing for their fighters, because they know the public at large does not understand the way these fights are organized.
But this is a common criticism of Mayweather, and one that I think is irrational because it begs the question: if Mayweather shouldn't control the fights, then who should?
I equate it too if the NBA let Lebron choose which court he wanted to play on for a series every game, the refs, the other teams equipment etc.
This is what I mean, you equate it to a regulated league sport, where there are teams that are part of an association where everyone has predetermined in a collective bargaining agreement and a charter as how to conduct the sport.
No such boxing organization exists, and never has.
So when fights are organized, promoted, marketed, and executed, there is a great deal of negotiation between several business entities, one or two of which will represent the fighters themselves.
In the instance of Manny's next fight, he'll fight another Top Rank fighter, because Arum will want to ensure Pacman doesn't get another loss. There'll be no negotiation, there'll be no hassle over gloves, because Arum will be negotiating on behalf of both parties. Now, if Manny were to fight a boxer under a different promoter, then there would be questions that need to be answered with respect to equipment, drug testing, which arena, how to break down revenues. Etc, etc..
just beat someone the right way,
That's what he did.
don't control what gloves they wear, that's some p****y shit.
But you haven't said why?
Pacquiao signed a contract stating that he would not wear horse hair gloves (which have less padding than others), but horse hair gloves are approved by the Nevada Boxing Commission. When Mayweather's camp complained and stated Pacquiao was in breach of contract, the commission ignored arbitration as did CBS stating there wasn't anything to be done that late in the game - it would have to be a legal matter for after the fight.
Mayweather has always stated that boxers should use the safest gloves possible, and neither party should use gloves that aim to reduce padding in order to add a harder punching effect as it's dangerous.
You can say, "fuck that I want bareknuckle," but Mayweather's point is that "this isn't a brawl, this isn't a street fight - it's boxing."
