Minor League Game Thread 4/24-4/31

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Ceiling as a BOR SP on a division two team.. for the Guardians..bulk reliever to high leverage if his command and velo continue to rise.. Nothing serious here.. just pretty darn good..
I'll go ahead and respectfully disagree. His ceiling has always been Sonny Gray-like and it still is. Good velo with lots of spin, a whipeout slider and a good change up.

Oooooof. Parker Messick gets chased out of the 1st inning for Lynchburg.

0.1IP 2H 2R/2ER 2BB 1K - 34 pitches 19 strikes.

For those who may be interested...

The Akron game is about to start and the RubberDucks get to face off against the legend - Justin Verlander in a rehab start.

Well the Akron boys, managed 2 singles, 1 SB and a walk off Mr. Verlander - 4.2IP 2H 0R/ER 1BB 6K.

I assume Justin was one of the oldest in either dugout (players/coaches/you-name-it) today... Walking up to the plate and seeing an "old man" on the mound... Must of been a fun day for the kids.

when drafted.. I thought it was abundantly clear, Lenny Torres was going to end up in the pen.. and the sooner he moved there.. the better.. Being in this pen.. could be his calling..

Over in Lake County.

Milan Tolentino and Joe Lampe go back to back, hitting their 1st dingers of the year.

To go off of this... Dion has looked solid so far this season. He went 5 scoreless innings today! I think he will be at AA in the second half of the season.

Also Brito and Frias have been looking solid at LC as well... Frias needs a solid season while we all want to see what Brito can do at AA soon...

That AAA roster is hitting... Palacios, Freeman, Rocchio, Collins, Fry, Pries...

Pries hasn't been hitting lefties, but has been playing everyday. Collins and Fry are trying to prove they should be at the big league level... Fry hasn't really played any C this season, so it feels like the organization doesn't consider him a C (but would likely be the third C if need be).

Fry only got 12 games (11 starts) & 98 innings behind the plate last season (per baseball reference).

This year Zack Collins (a known limited D at catcher) is getting playing time behind the plate before Fry.

My speculation: Either the CLE FO feels the catching skills of David Fry are completely good & he doesn't need regular work back there or they have near zero belief in him behind the plate outside of dire emergency...

At least Fry is in the lineup regularly getting playing time at other spots.

Unless they made a deal with Collins to be exclusive backup to Naylor to get him to sign… no one is so good to not play where Cle sees their potential future with the org. And if no “C” duty, that ain’t his future, no matter how slim or great of chance at going to the bigs. It’s not a position you put down and slide back into (versus play SS but slide into 2nd if opening).
