Minor League Game Thread 5/8-5/14

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Campbell is on the IL and with the way Cleveland likes to work with guys, I doubt there are in a hurry to get him into A ball action.

I get that people want to see our pitchers in action. A position player needs to get ABs with a competitive level of stuff to hone their skills. Pitchers can go months and get the data read-outs of how their stuff (tunneling, speed and spins) is doing without really even facing a batter. Nice for competiveness to go out and face batters. But, they can get their innings in even in Arizona tunnels.

Yet, we first heard of his injury in early April (could have been out a bit before). One site that I saw said non-surgical usually is all that is needed. And, If nonsurgical treatment is (usually is) effective, the athlete can often return to throwing in 6 to 9 weeks. So, we are still in the shut-down period (most likely). Yet, if he comes back in June or so, they can give him enough innings in Instructional League (or longer).

I forgot to do the 5/12 recap!

Columbus won 6-2... Everyone got on base in yesterday's game, but Rocchio lead the way with 3 hits, while Collins did the knockout blow with a grand slam. Plesac with 4 innings giving up a run then Kelly gave up the other run in the 9th. Herrin had a scoreless innings

Akron lost 2-1... Stanley had a strong outing going 6+ innings... Sharpe gave up the winning hit in the bottom of the 10th. Kokx lead the way with two hits and everyone but Lava and Naranjo got on base but they were 0-7 with RISP and got caught stealing 4 times...

LC lost 8-4... Brito and Fox lead the way with 2 hits, while almost everyone else reached base via a hit or a walk. They went 4-14 with RISP. Dion had a so-so night that the error by Cairo made way worse... Zapata didn't look too bad, but Aleman couldn't finish the game strong...

Lynchburg won 4-3... The top of the lineup in Furman, Benjamin and Antunez all got multiple hits. Collado and Filia also added hits and Richardson had a so-so start but the bullpen kept it together for the win... Furman had 3 steals as well in the game...

Just an addition to the LC writeup for 5/12...
The club gave up 4 runs in the top of the 10th for the final score. Lake County tried to rally in the bottom of the 10th but they also had to deal with a rain delay during that half inning..

5/13 Recap

Columbus won 13-11...Norris and Oviedo both had bad games... Had some defensive issues as well... Naylor had a nice night with 2 HRs and pretty much everyone had a Run or RBI as well... Valera is looking strong since his return (maybe a promotion is in the cards).

Akron lost 5-4... Everyone reached base, Martinez had 2 hits, Naranjo had 3, Tena had no hits but 3 BBs... Arias had a so-so night pitching while Jones struggled in his three innings...

LC lost 6-5... Hankins started (as stated above) but Mace struggled in his piggyback innings... Everyone reached base, but Cairo and Donovan lead the way with 2 hits a piece. Lampe is still struggling after a really good start to the season... Donovan has had a nice start to the season!

Lynchburg lost 7-2... They had 11 hits, Furman and Brown had 3 a piece, Collado added two more, but the defense struggle and Tulloch had a very bad start... The FO will be hard pressed to keep Furman, Antunez and Collado at Lynchburg since they are playing really well...

OGonz will a single and Noel gets him in with a HR...

Now I understand why Freeman got called up. It was to clear the way for playing time for Daniel Schneemann who is leading off and on a roll.

Cantillo with 4.2IP, 3H, 1ER and 6SO. His ERA is at 1.85 so far this season in Akron. He's not really being challenged, but his BB rate is high so he needs to get that reeled in.

Burns has a 3.18 ERA in Akron with a 3.6 BB9 and a 10.7 SO9.

The difference between Burns and Cantillo is the H9 rate. Burns is at 7.9 while Cantillo is at 5.0.

Its not just a BB rate for Cantillo.. Its his overall pitch count.
Today was only 2 walks in the 4.2 IP but also 73 pitches (50 strikes) in the that same span..

In terms of challenge, today was a good one as he was facing the same club as his last start (Cantillo also started the game on Tuesday in Altoona).

Well when you're averaging 5.2 BB9 then your pitch count is going to be elevated. Especially for a pitcher like Cantillo with a lot of swings and misses. If/when he gets his BB9 down to 3.0 or lower then his pitch count issue will less of an issue.
