2019 NBA Draft Lottery

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
With the Pelicans putting the 4th pick up for sale and all the buzz that is surrounding Darius Garland right now, I anticipate that he will end up going 4th, to whomever trades up. So, here is how the top of the draft looks:

1) Pelicans- Williamson
2) Grizzlies- Morant
3) Knicks- Barrett
4) Bulls/Celtics/Wolves- Garland
5) Cavs- ???

I believe the Cavs will select De’Andre Hunter, whether it’s for a trade or to keep him, only time will tell....

Seems like the draft top four is locking in:
1. Zion (lock)
2. Ja (lock)
3. RJ (close to a lock)
4. Garland (trending to a lock)

So that leaves us with the first pick of the third tier. I keep talking myself into each guy, but I think I would take Cam's upside, over Hunter's 3D ceiling. I can see each being a Harrison Barnes type which isn't the worst thing at 5. If we can use JR to get up to the late lottery, I would go big with Goga or Bol.

My preference has come down to Garland at 5 and Reddish if he's gone at 4 (likely). I want a guy who has star potential, not a solid role player. We have lots of those right now.

Hunter/Reddish/Culver are all solid picks at 5. If you think Hunter can quicken his release & tighten his dribble than you think he's going to be a very good NBA starter/borderline star player, if you don't, than he's more in line with a solid starter/role player.

1 will be available at 8, probably either Reddish or Culver as it seems Atlanta likes Hunter with the Bulls or Suns picking Coby White. Cavs probably have the 8 & 17 offer, but are holding out for the 8 & 10.

I wouldn't bet on Suns keeping their pick or picking a pg if they do despite the need, they apparently really love Hunter to fix their front court failed gambles. I do think the Bulls will take Garland or White.
But that is the main reason why Atlanta might be willing to move past those 2 for 5 since they are high on Hunter.

Some scouts see Reddish,Bol and Hayes in the same tier as Barrett and Garland.

Terry Pluto has an interesting article on the possibility of Kevin Love being shipped to New Orleans for the #4 pick with other pieces involved. Griff supposedly loves Kevin and has a close relationship with him off the court. Here’s a possible 3-way deal:

ATL: #4 pick
CLE: #8 & #10 picks, additional protections on 2020 pick owed to Atlanta
NO: Kevin Love

Additional players, like Solomon Hill going to Cleveland, would need to be involved to make the trade work under the salary cap.

If Griff wants Love and gives up #4, I would be real happy with that. Personally I would want Koby to take #4 and shop it around. Even if it ultimately goes to the Hawks, we can still control the draft and make sure we get our guy at #5. Trading both #4 and #5 could be on the table too but we would probably still make sure we got our guys. Koby potential could take the two guys he doesn't actually want off the board with trades and gain assets at the same time.

with 4 + 5 we could get both Garland and Hunter.... or Garland and Culver... Cedi may have to come off the bench for that though as neither can really play PF

I’d do it too...as long as they don’t offer #4 and #5 to the Knicks to try to get up to #3 for RJ Barrett. That would seriously piss me off! RJ is a ball-dominant chucker and I think he’s overrated.

Take Garland at 4 and Culver at 5. Then we have a 1-2-3 of Garland - Sexton - Culver. All of which can play on or off the ball and be a nightmarish matchup for opposing defenses. It would be undersized at SG and SF but I feel Culver plays bigger then his size and would be the perfect SF next to Sexton and Garland who both profile more as combo guards not true point guards.

If the Cavs believe Garland and Sexton can play together, then I’m OK with picking him. I’m not the biggest Culver fan, so I would prefer to trade the other pick to Atlanta. We could then slide back and pick Reddish, along with picking up another draft asset.
