NBA News & Notes

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
You're clearly not the demographic of someone that would go to a bar frequented by former basketball players, though.
Irrelevant to the point I was making.

Do you recognize Jokic from live NBA games or social media?

I would say social media generally has very little impact on the recognizability of pro athletes. We know them via games, not instagram photos.

Now if you’re talking Tristan Thompson I’d agree with you but that’s because he’s
a Kardashian.
KAT's actually dating this chick who's Kardashian adjacent, he's probably one of the more recognizable NBA players.

In terms of NBA stats walking into bars, how much they stand out physically is a pretty big factor. If a guy like Andre Drummond walked into a bar, a lot of folks may assume (wrongly, of course) that he's a big-time basketball player. Whereas a guy like Fred VanVleet may not even be noticed at all.

KAT is recognizable due to his lazy eye starring up at his brain. Just like Brandon Ingram and T-Mac before them.

Other than using the most unassuming player in, perhaps, the last 20+yrs, you're choosing a strawman here.

*I* know Jokic, and KAT, because of basketball; because I've loved the sport for upwards of 35+ years. The point wasn't that someone knows the modern player solely because of social media, but that players in the social media age are more visible, identifiable, accessible and recognizable *because* of it. When professional athletes of the last century were in public, you'd have to watch the games or rely on news to see what these people looked like. They are now omnipresent on social media in order to build their brands and expand revenue streams. Considering it's relatively new, we don't know *how* expanded their recognition is, but its objectively grown. Look at how popular a guy like Juju Smith-Schuster got because of TikTok, as an example.

Seriously, nobody’s gonna comment on Morant’s 25 game suspension?

He got off kinda easy it seems like. Who cares about the first 25 games of the NBA season?
No way the player’s association was going to let the league give him more games than Bridges (who actually broke the law)!
Trust and believe, though, if he stubs his toe after this incident he’ll be gone for a year!

The Suns gave up absolutely nothing , not even a 1st round pick. I guess the Wizards are just happy to get out of the Beal contract which is probably a good idea considering he’s often injured and they’ve gone nowhere with him

BB is the only player in the NBA with a no trade clause. Says a lot about the competence of Washington’s front office.

I don't know why Phoenix would do that trade.

Booker, KD, and Beal are all ball dominant wings. None of them are going to be effective defenders while the others dominate the ball.

Beal will play SG where he is already undersized, Booker will play SF where he will be undersized, and KD will have to play PF where he will be undersized in terms of girth and is in general not good for his longevity at his age. They have zero depth to ease his workload at PF.

Unless they expect Beal to play PG?

Well, they were able to get rid of CP3 but it was already reported that they were actually going to waive him; I suppose in order for salaries to match, the team must exercise his option .

While it might not be the perfect fit , they didn’t give up anything to get a 2nd or 3rd team all NBA player and their roster now has 4 max players. I suppose it was worth a shot for them

Beal is 6’4 so how is that undersized as a SG? Although it is interesting to see who plays PG!
