Jazz To Trade Rudy Gobert To Timberwolves

July 1st, 2022 at 2:40pm CST by Luke Adams
The Jazz are trading three-time Defensive Player of the Year Rudy Gobert to the Timberwolves, sources tell ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski (Twitter link).

According to Wojnarowski (all Twitter links), the Jazz will receive Malik Beasley, Patrick Beverley, Jarred Vanderbilt, Leandro Bolmaro, 2022 first-round pick Walker Kessler, and four future first-rounders in the deal.
Minnesota will send Utah unprotected first-round picks in 2023, 2025, and 2027, along with a top-five protected 2029 first-rounder and a pick swap in 2026, reports Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic (Twitter link).
A major shake-up had been expected in Utah this spring and Gobert has been mentioned in trade rumors since the Jazz were eliminated from the postseason since the spring. Additionally, the Wolves were rumored to be in the market for a rim-protecting center to play alongside Karl-Anthony Towns, and had been linked to Gobert.
Still, the fact that the two division rivals were able to agree to terms on this blockbuster deal comes as a major surprise and represents a huge home-run swing by new Timberwolves president of basketball operations Tim Connelly and incoming owners Marc Lore and Alex Rodriguez.

It’s what happens when a player’s star power is bigger than the city he’s playing in. We saw it here with LeBron as we bent over backwards for him and he treated us like his rented mule.

it's amazing the resentment people have toward Lebron when he did more for the Cavs than any player ever.

I’m not resentful. I just don’t like how he refused to ever really commit when he was here and always seemingly had one foot out the door. The Cavs bowed down to him, too much so IMO.

He's one of the top three players in NBA history, plays his ass off on the court, and is a good teammate. You have to accommodate him. The problem the Cavs had was not being nice to Lebron but that we didn't put a great team around him.

Celtics getting better adding Brogdon and Gallinari…always liked brogdon’s game when healthy and gallanari is a nice bench scorer

Yikes. Non-shooter getting seriously overpaid. He thrived with the Warriors for obvious reasons, but at Portlant he's just a "defensive specialist". He's their Okoro.

You clearly did not watch GSW if you think GP2 is just a non-shooting specialist. The dude inherited his dad's defensive skills and might even be better at some things like screen navigation. GP2 is all-D 1st team level and absolutely worth the money POR is paying him.

I know there were people on here that thought I was crazy for wanting to sign Donte DiVincenzo…..but obviously the Warriors saw what I saw in him because they signed him to a two year deal!

If he pushes Klay Thompson to the bench you can take a victory lap. Otherwise he's just a warm body like Kent Bazemore.

You don’t sign a warm body for two years!!!! He is a competent back up shooter so Klay and Curry can cut back on minutes played.
