NBA News & Notes

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Using the Cavs (a team struggling to find PG play) is a bad example. Paint it any way you want but the Warriors saw a player that could help their team (a team that already has shooters) and added another shooter.
Meanwhile this upcoming season our SGs will continue struggle from the perimeter unless our rook steps up.

Donte isn't a shooter. They lost Gary Payton II so they added Donte who is a gritty defender. Although he isn't the defender GPII was for the warriors he is likely the best they could get on the open market at that price point.

Donte is better than GP2. And the Warriors seem to agree.

The overvaluing of Payton is getting totally out of hand. This is a guy who spent his whole career on the margins of the NBA before falling into a perfect situation and unconventional role with GS.

What other team is going to have him hanging around the dunker's spot?

Warriors just got better.

Warriors got out bid. They offered GP more then they just gave Donte. Problem was Blazers gave Payton stupid money. Is Donte better then Payton? Maybe he's a better offensive player but isn't near the defender Payton has been the past 2 seasons. For the Warriors I would argue Payton is a better fit buy they couldn't make money work. I think Donte signing is more of an indication GS isn't thrilled with the Moody pick thus far.

Why is nobody talking about the Gobert trade? Minny just combined one of the best rim protecting centers in NBA history with the best shooting center in NBA history, and gave up more first round picks than maybe any trade ever to do it (when you count the two recent first rounders included). They must see Rudy Gobert as the key to a championship, which I don’t think anyone else did. Who predicted he would bring this kind of trade return? Plus, Danny Ainge is involved. This practically deserves its own thread.

The national media doesn't give a shit about Salt Lake City or Minneapolis.

Both KAT and Gobert are soft and boring. Neither will win a ring.

Could they be trying to form their own twin towers. Who is better Mobley + Allen or Gobert + Towns???

Zion getting a $193m extension which could escalate to $213m. Big risk for the Pelicans with his injury history.

Zion extension

Here's my first take at 8 team pods. The names are obviously just stand ins but tie to certain themes. OKC is a tough put in any group but had to make these balanced 4 team pods, so I did the best I could.

New England
NY Knicks
Brooklyn Nets
Boston Celtics
Phi 76ers

Coastal Seaboard
Washington Wizards
Charlotte Hornets
Orlando Magic
Miami Heat

Great Lakes East
Toronto Raptors
Cleveland Cavaliers
Indiana Pacers
Detroit Pistons

Great Lakes North
Chicago Bulls
Milwaukee Bucks
Minnesota TimberWolves
OKC Thunder(biggest where to put outlier)

Southern Flavor: BBQ, Beale, and Bourbon
Atlanta Hawks
Memphis Grizzlies
New Orleans Pelicans
Houston Rockets

Desert West
Dallas Mavericks
San Antonio Spurs
Phoenix Suns
Las Vegas

California Dreaming
Los Angeles Lakers
Los Angeles Clippers
Golden State Warriors
Sacramento Kings

NorthWest Passage/Oregon Trail
Portland TrailBlazers
Seattle SuperSonics
Utah Jazz
Denver Nuggets

From a fan rivalalry perspective(current NBA rivals but also historical rivalries based on region, culture and other sports, I think there is massive potential in these pods)

You'd play 6 games against your three division opponents. They would always be grouped in pairs of two, whether back to back games or with a travel day or two involved. You'd play 2 or 3 games against every other division, with the divisions you played three times per year being closer geographical fits, so you'd never be playing the Laker or Sonics three times a year for example.

This could add up to 82 games or they could scale back to somewhere between 74-78 games main schedule to accommodate the in season tourney they're talking about and continued tweaks to the Play In tourney.
Who cares about divisions anymore? I mean all that matters now is where you finish in the conference, right??
