Picard Season 2 is definitely better than the first season.

Nice shout out to Gul Dukat and General Martok! No surprise that the good Gul was by far Picard's greatest adversary. On DS9 it literally took divine intervention to defeat him. Twice.

Forgive me if this has been previously discussed:

Letterkenny

Thesis: Agricultural Seinfeld, and the only show I've seen come close to the magic of Seinfeld as a "show about nothing".

Thoughts? Anybody else a fan?

Watched the first 3-4 seasons and then needed a break. Will return to watch more soon. Definitely funny and yes, gave me Seinfeld vibe, just Canadian/rural/Gen Z vs NYC Gen X/young boomers.

Some hilarious episodes and scenes but such a specific style and comedic language that it took me a while to get used to some of the beats to the way the main cast talks to each other.

My wife are huge fans now, but we have this unanswerable question:

How do you explain to normal people in light conversation what this show is, why it's good, without sounding like a complete weirdo?

It's basically like bringing up Fargo in the 1980s at a fondue party. Yes, the accents are going to make you work. I'm not even sure you are going to get it, but if you do? Fuuuuuuck.

It's not just the accents either. Some of the weird cadences, call and responses, and repeating phrasing they do is just weird. I'm sure it's not invented by them and they have clear influences and homages, but it took a while to get used to it. On top of that, it can be super low brow or non PC, while also being super smart and full of heart, compromise, and acceptance.

Been watching Our Flag Means Death. The cast is incredible and it's such a weird show. It's not as good as I was hoping but still enjoyable.

Just started season 1 of Battlestar. Does this guy have sex fantasies every minute of the day?

Watched the first episode of the new Halo series. It was all right. The special effects feel closer to the 2004 Battlestar Galactica than the later seasons of The Expanse. The CGI is better, to be sure, but it still seems a little jittery and isn't perfectly integrated into the world.

That being said, the big action scene in the first episode was fun, and the show is a lot more violent than I expected. Absolutely hate that they use a first-person perspective in brief spurts, though. It cheapens the whole production, which is otherwise playing it straight and serious.

Finally getting around to watching Book of Boba Fett. That end credit theme is a banger.

Picard is fucking awful.

CBS is doing everything they can to destroy the IP.

How can a show featuring a beloved character be so awful?

By having 12(!) executive producers and a room full of writers who have admitted to not having watched Star Trek.

Hubris is a helluva thing.

Despite the ample examples of how great franchises succeed, MCU, and how they fail, Star Wars, Ghostbusters, CBS keeps on trucking with the people who say "The source material is dumb, we can do better!"

Personally I dont watch Star trek, I have seen every episode of the original series because my brother and dad are huge Star Trek fans.

That being said, its fine I dont watch Star Trek because I am not trying to write a series in the Star Trek universe, that is insane to me.
