NFL Off-Season Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The league only tests for weed now for 2 weeks of the whole year...the fact that Josh Gordon gets randomly tested through the year is beyond hypocritical.

Throw into the fact they are talking about mental health and yet refuses to recognize the Josh Gordon smokes weed because of anxiety and weed is about the safest anti-anxiety drug out there.

Gordon has issues, and he has broke rules. But outside of purple drank once, all of the things he has been caught for is weed or alcohol related. This isnt a guy comittng felonies, hitting women, robbing liquor stores, ect. He frustrated the fuck out of me over the years as a Browns fan, but the league is so wrong on this one.

Fucking Bill Cosby got out of jailafter being accused of raping over 70 women (convicted of 1) but Josh Gordon cant play in the NFL because he likes to smoke herb?

Get the fuck outta here.
Stop it. Josh is not the only professional athlete to have anxiety or depression. He himself admitted he was an alcoholic and addicted to smoking weed.
He admitted to going home before games and drinking shots and smoking from a bong and then going to the stadium. He wasn’t doing it because of anxiety, it’s because he’s an addict and a knucklehead.

There’s hundreds of thousands of men and women who really are depressed or have anxiety and weed can help, this jackass is not one of them and does not help bring attention to those who need the help.

Seriously, he could have made 10s of millions of dollars had he not drank or smoked. There’s tons of other legs options that he could have used. He was tested constantly because he was an addict and couldn’t follow the rules.

Don’t feel sorry for this guy, pray for him and hope that he found a legit, legal way to deal with his addiction and his “anxiety” issues.

Weed is legal in most states, has been for years.

There is such hypocracy on what is banned. An athlete walks into a GNC, over half the shit on the shelf will get them banned. The line is grey, and 36 states has legalized weed. Dont thell me about legal.

Oh and the NFL has the players best interest at heart. The hid how bad concussion syndrome was for years, and as brutal of a sport that football is, they decided to add a 17th game to the season.

So excuse me if i think the NFL execs are peices of shit and speak out of their collective asses

“Having a tough time recovering from the brutal rigors of playing in the NFL? We’ll shoot you up full of torodol whenever you want! Oh you don’t like needles? Here’s a prescription for opioids. Better wash them down with 10 or 12 beers to really crank them up!

But don't you dare smoke weed or we’ll kick you right out of the league.”

This is one instance where the NFL absolutely sucks.

"You could get paid lots of money if you don't do 'X'" isn't a valid reason for demanding someone doesn't do "X."

Athletes, or anyone else, shouldn't be expected to have a lower quality of life because they get paid a lot.

"Stop it" :chuckle:

At least I'm glad we're still labeling people in dismissive terms. Just view someone as a "knucklehead" instead of your equal and you can basically shit on them as much as you want.

Does anyone actually believe Josh Gordon is and has only been suspended for weed? Are we seriously back to this, like with weed he is some kind of hybrid of Jerry Rice and Peter Tosh but without it, hes like a hybrid of Johnny Manziel and any random person with athletic ability? We've been down this road before- pro sports are full of functioning potheads, that clearly wasn''t his only issue, and attempting to boil it down to just cannabis- either way- is just stupid.

Exactly. I believe he has admitted to cocaine. But, no, not our beloved JG. He likes to only do the “should be legal weed”

What's the point of the whataboutisms from you two?

The topic was being suspended for weed--which has happened to Gordon multiple times.

If something else happened, cool, that's a separate topic. It has nothing to do with the discussion of the validity of the NFL's anti-cannabis stance.

Off the top of my head, the only suspensions he's had are weed and some "purple drank" thing. Maybe alcohol on a team plane while he was supposed to not drink? I don't think he's been suspended for anything else--but correct me if I'm wrong.

Just an FYI, he's never admitted to being "addicted to smoking weed".

Because that's not a thing. It's a poor life choice for him, specifically, because he gets tested for it, but he wasn't addicted to it.

I'm on team "if they tell you not to do something, just don't do it." You can find legal ways to deal with the stress, specifically through drugs other than weed.

The NFL's stance on weed is absolutely dumb, as is most of the culture, but if they tell you not to do it and you do it anyway, then you are purposefully throwing it away.

Yes. He’s a moron

Thoughts and prayers for him, for sure.

That’ll help. Definitely.

The line for weed in the NFL isn't gray. It is extraordinarily black and white. That's a fact that should have sunken in to even Gordon's weed-addled brain after the first few suspensions/losses of millions of dollars.

There are tens millions of ordinarily people out there who have jobs that prohibit them from smoking weed - military, cops, medical professionals, Class A drivers, etc. etc.. Whether they agree with the rule or not, they understand their obligation to comply, and the consequences of if they don't. Believe it or not, it actually isn't that hard for all those ordinary 18-25 year olds to follow that rule.

All the rest of that is classic "whataboutism". Dude had a simple rule to follow to make perhaps in the nine figures, and he couldn't.

Zero sympathy here for Gordon and his bullshit "anxiety" excuse.

Both "I use weed because it helps with my anxiety" and "I fucked up by using a banned substance" can be true.

Of course Josh Gordon screwed up, repeatedly. Nobody is arguing that.

There's also no reason for the NFL's current stance on cannabis.

I'm sure it helped with whatever his anxiety was. But there are plenty of ways to cope with anxiety that don't involve the use of a drug that is still illegal for recreational use in most states, and for which he did not have a medical prescription to treat any medically diagnosed anxiety he may have had.

There's also no reason for the NFL's current stance on cannabis.

I think that argument becomes much stronger if/when it is legal in every state that has an NFL team, as well as under federal law.
