NFL Off-Season Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I’ve had dogs all my and have never had one afraid of the loud noises caused by fireworks. We got a Sheepadoodle last Sept and she was very nervous and anxious last night.
Instead of bitching and moaning like everyone else on my Facebook feed, we kept her inside and turned the TV in a little higher than normal and gave her a bully stick.
My Goldendoodle wasn’t fazed in the slightest and say on my wife’s lap and watched with us.

Fire
Thoughts and prayers for your dogs.

He stepped away because he could get reinstated by the league. There’s a ton of different options he could have taken to help him that wasn’t on the banned list. Drinking and smoking pot was just an option he chose to do and he was specifically told, many times, not to.
There’s a very simple reason as to why it’s not fully legal or given a free pass in the NFL.
Don’t fall for his crap and bs mental illness crap, it’s a coverup. He’s just a loser, addict like my brother was.

Sorry, but your argument is just too terrible for me not to come out on the side of understanding the science of mental illness.

It’s just so bad, filled with emotions and petty hatred that only shows the failure of some to feel empathy, ignoring any research or efforts to change. There is no value in relentlessly attacking them, it doesn’t solve anything and just makes you look worse.

Socially conditioned to demonize people and maintain a sense of acting like you’re better than they are.

I don’t fall for that see through BS. You don’t need to attack them, you need people to pray for you and your inability to feel empathy for those with mental illness.

And don’t tell me not to pray for you, or that my prayers are sarcastic, either. That’s blasphemous, and could hurt my feelings if you’re not more careful.

I guy i worked with for a bit was a former pro body builder. Phoenix has a huge pro training scene, and he was in it. He knew Gordon from the gym and trainer and hung out with him a bit.

This is 2nd hand knowledge, but still pretty reliable. Gordon is well liked, nice guy. He has some depression he deals with. I understand there are rules and some think its easy to deal with just not smoking weed. For me that would be the case, but for others its a matter of life and death some times and just takes some empathy and understnading to realize this.

Most days Gordon can manage, just fine, without weed. He is in control and his career is mor eimportant. But as OI said, deppression happens every day. Some bad days you just want to end your life..not often, but depression is very serious. It is life threatening. Its just not as easy to say, well dont kill yourself. Its a complete abandoment of trying to understnad mental illness. So that day, he cant deal, he either smokes and risk getting caught or maybe killing himself.

But here is the thing, weed doesnt make you fun faster. It is legal in 36 states, that is 72% of the country. By population its 80%. Yes i think its funking hypocritical that Gordon is demonized like if a football player had to take sterioids recovering from lung cancer. It was taken to live. Just that simple.

Actually weed is worse because it doesnt help your performance, so why ban it unless you are just a complete asshole. But thats it, Goddell is a complete asshole.

Great post.

What happens to the Josh Gordon’s of the world if we stop criminalizing this behavior and shift to a more mental health focused approach to dealing with trauma, anxiety, depression, PTSD, etc.
“Initially it started for me, [because of] a lot of childhood and adolescent trauma-based fear. I was using in my childhood. That environment brought me into that a lot sooner than a normal—whatever normal is—kid should be brought into that, to be able to make a decision on their own of what to do. I didn’t want to feel anxiety, I didn’t want to feel fear. I didn’t plan on living to 18. Day-to-day life, what’s gonna happen next? So you self-medicate with Xanax, with marijuana, codeine—to help numb those nerves so you can just function every day. That became the norm from middle school to high school. So by the time I got into my 20s, I was on an accelerated pace.”

We know we can’t stop drug usage, we know criminalizing it benefits almost nobody.

Which is why it’s hard to understand the constant vitriol and hatred espoused toward people with mental illness who turn to marijuana for treatment.

Seems to be the opposite of anything productive or worthwhile to society.

You’re missing the point, again. Should marijuana be criminalized?? Only if you’re selling it in high doses. Should you be arrested for smoking it? No. Kicked out of the league for smoking it? Um, hell no.
However…..the leagues rules are crystal clear. I’m not arguing that’s it’s outdated, that isn’t the point and doesn’t matter in this situation. Why?? Because if you’re making millions of dollars and have top of the line medical staffs and consistent access to said medical staff and professionals, you should be able to get some time of LEGAL medication! If he chose to or not to get some LEGAL medication for his “mental issues” and still did an ILLEGAL still substance, than it’s his fault and he’s an idiot.
Between his years in high school, college and the NFL, he’s failed drug tests over and over again. Quit using the excuse of a mental disorder, it’s not fair to the people who really have one and are broke.
JG is just a loser and I can say that without even talking about this drug addiction he has.

Nope, this is wrong.

Every single bit of it.

Which is largely why I don’t take the people who scream the loudest, while having the least experience, seriously.

People just want to attack and call names, worthless and unconstructive ideals.

Couldn’t imagine a less educated “opinion” than that, I’ll still side with doctors and former addicts who better understand this disease and causes.

I suggest the ignore feature, you’re not entitled to tell me what I can believe.

Im confused. which part is wrong? Do you not support legalized weed? Do you think you should be arrested for smoking it? You dont think rules matter?

His assertion that I've missed his point, along with his uneducated name calling.

I think we're all very well aware of the simplistic point about what the NFL rules say.

The broader point is what everyone else is discussing, and seemingly all in agreement on.

I mean... you kinda ignored most of his points that he started his post with, and then asserted his "entire post is wrong".

Just throwing that out there.

The line for weed in the NFL isn't gray. It is extraordinarily black and white. That's a fact that should have sunken in to even Gordon's weed-addled brain after the first few suspensions/losses of millions of dollars.

There are tens millions of ordinarily people out there who have jobs that prohibit them from smoking weed - military, cops, medical professionals, Class A drivers, etc. etc.. Whether they agree with the rule or not, they understand their obligation to comply, and the consequences of if they don't. Believe it or not, it actually isn't that hard for all those ordinary 18-25 year olds to follow that rule.

All the rest of that is classic "whataboutism". Dude had a simple rule to follow to make perhaps in the nine figures, and he couldn't.

Zero sympathy here for Gordon and his bullshit "anxiety" excuse.
I agree with this. It’s not like he does not know, he chose to break the rules. While I agree the rules should be changed, your getting paid millions of $s to play a sport, follow the rules and push for change.
