NFL Off-Season Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
It's a shame, but I'd be absolutely stunned if this happens. Flores just went against the NFL fully knowing it's likely to cost him his coaching career.

Any franchise that hires him now would also be going against the NFL. They'd have a massive target on their backs. We all know what the NFL is capable of...they're capable of anything. I would not want my team and franchise targeted by the NFL.

The same NFL that literally did nothing to the WFT and made Jon Gruden the fall guy? The same NFL that lied in the whole concussion scandal?

We're talking about the same NFL right?

The Rooney is just inherently flawed. It's ridiculous that a team has to put on this masquerade when they already have their guy picked out. It's not fair to the teams or any of the coaches interviewing for the position. It might have good intentions but it was always going to end this way. Look for lawsuits to come more and more frequently.

The 'paying for tanking' thing though, that's completely fucked and he deserves to lose the team over that

The NFL is basically partnering with Draftkings and FanDuel now. Sports betting has never been as big as it is today. If there's even a shred of evidence that an NFL owner offered money for his coach to purposely lose games it's over for him. Has to be.

I'm not as well versed in sports betting as others in here are but how is that not the biggest sports betting scandal in sports history? Imagine if some of Stephen Ross's associates were invested in the outcomes of the games that he essentially wagered to lose on?

This is the holy grail of sports betting scandals and sadly this specific part of the story will likely turn out to be the biggest and the one that leads to the most consequences and not the root of the story which is RACISM.

I don't get the NYG one. NYG obviously liked Daboll, but they had to interview a black candidate via the Rooney Rule to avoid racism. So they do... and that's now racist? What does that word even mean anymore.

A highly qualified black candidate wouldn't have even gotten an interview there. They decided before Flores could even make a pitch and used him as a token. Brian Flores as a token candidate, think about that? If anything there needs to more protections in place than just the Rooney Rule.

There's nothing blue collar about millionaires.
Your plumber might well be making $150k my friend. If he invests his money like @natedagg tells him to, he’ll be a millionaire.
The Cole Haan Italian leather dress shoes crunching on the ice with every step…. That V6 hybrid engine with 3.5L Powerboost…. If I was a Giants fan I’d let that truck run me over every day…

I bet you he got that at Ganley Ford West….. No doubt in my mind..
Was there a car dealership in Cleveland in the early 90s that had a guy with a kind of dopey voice saying the name “Poogie” or “Pugi” repeatedly? Does anyone remember this?

You're looking at this the wrong way my dude. If your argument is the NFL is scum, then we're arguing the same thing. But whatever conclusion you're drawing from that isn't making sense.

I would not put it past the NFL to intentionally screw over any team/franchise that hires Flores. As in, instructing referees to give them the short end of the stick, all the time. As in, finding reasons to investigate and penalize the team. Harsher player suspensions, etc. Any team that tries to do "the right thing" by hiring Flores is willingly going up against the NFL by doing so.

The NFL protected the WFT because it benefited them (greatly) to do so. Nobody on the WFT filed a lawsuit against the NFL lol the situations aren't even remotely comparable. In fact they couldn't be more dissimilar. This isn't a team employee filing a lawsuit against the team. This is a head coach going against the entire league.

The NFL lied about concussions because it also benefited them to do so. The NFL quite obviously has no morals, they do solely what is in their best interest.

Make no mistake, Brian Flores is now public enemy #1 to the NFL. No team is going to battle with him against the NFL.

Here's what is going to happen: The NFL is going to pay Flores a shitload of money to drop the lawsuit so they can sweep this under the rug. And he'll almost certainly never coach in the NFL again. This is basically the Kap situation but on steroids.

When Belichick leaves Kraft will hire Flores within 90 seconds

No doubt in my mind…

Because of the Kaep situation this one will play out completely differently…

Offer of money to lose games: Good for Flores. If he doesn't coach to win, intentionally tanks games, and then gets fires after 2 years and a 7-25 record, is Steven Ross going to call all the other owners and say, "do not judge this man for future hiring opportunities based on his record because I told him to lose on purpose". Intentional directives to coaches to lose games should be punished. If you want to lose games intentionally, it's on the GM to make roster decisions to set that up. Tanking a game once it has begun is BS and should be severely discouraged by punishment

Exactly. When the Browns wanted to tank, they didn't pay their coach to lose. They just hired Hue Jackson and the losing came on its own.
