Nobody Beats The Wiz Khalifa Diop

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Kareem Abdul Jabaar wrote an article about him recently and described him as, “ushering in the next generation of big men.”

Thought that was pretty cool.
I an sure he is watching highlights of Shaq in a Cavs uniform as we speak and he has been made aware that the Cavs were a beefstick away from getting Amare ( if you don’t get that reference you missed the golden age of rcf) . . In all seriousness a backup center who can run the floor and rebound would greatly help the rotation next year.

I disagree with the author in some respects. If the Cavs want to get to the finals, they have to go through Embiid or Robert Williams, and having another big body who is mobile is going to be a necessity, not a luxury.

Khalifa Diop

Drafted by the Cleveland Cavaliers with the 39th Pick in the 2022 NBA Draft.
Diop was one of the most proven players coming into the 2022 Draft. With two full seasons of high-level experience in the Spanish ACB under his belt, Diop was already a key rotation player for Gran Canaria by the time last year’s draft rolled around. Diop has stepped up yet again this year, now becoming a starter for Gran Canaria and maintaining his overall levels of efficiency despite seeing more minutes per game.
Diop’s game was never the most eye-popping and this year has been no exception, but while limited, he plays extremely well within his role. Listed at 7-foot-1 Diop has the size and strength to withstand physicality at the center position, but he is also more mobile, coordinated and explosive than you would expect for his size. As such, he’s able to run the floor, roll to the basket and catch lobs with speed and power. Defensively, he’s a powerful leaper off a standstill, which allows him to act as the last line of defense, protect the rim when dribble penetration occurs and secure defensive rebounds.
While there’s value in holding Diop’s draft rights, it’s hard to see the Cavs having any hurry in bringing the senegalese center over, considering they have two of the best young big men in the NBA on long term contracts. Cleveland could look to bring Diop and have him as a rotation piece on a rookie contract who is ready to play minutes from day one. Otherwise, his draft rights hold value and could be included in a trade to move up or to gain additional picks in the upcoming NBA Draft.

I'd settle for a backup center who can run.

20+ years of watching basketball experience
Most reports have him as have good lateral footwork. If true, I’ll take that kind of athleticism plus his natural height/reach, as it’s fundamental to the exact kind of defensive tasks we already ask Allen and Mobley to do, which is to be able to cover ground inside and out and not be a liability if they get switched and isolated on the perimeter.

Someone who can do that and who can stick to assignment based defensive responsibilities is far more important to ne than someone who can make some eye popping athletic blocks but tries to block everything to the point of constantly eschewing their actual defensive responsibilities and creating gaps to be exploited by defy passers or on second chance offensive rebounds when a guard can grab the rebound in the space the athletic big vacated to try and make an unrealistic block

Skill, size and athleticism are very different things. I think you are confusing the three. If you can run the floor and have a decent vertical with lateral quickness than you are not a bad athlete. It does not mean you can play in the nba as size and skill are pretty important but I don’t see how you can see Dean Wade play basketball and call this guy a bad athlete.

Why didn't we dissect Chukwudiebere Maduabum like this?

I didn't call him bad

I would bring him over asap. Get him acclimated and see if he has anything that can make him become the starting center.

Clock is ticking on Allen’s time as a Cavalier
