I don't think you understand how cap space in the NFL works.

Every single dollar in rollover cap we have, we're going to be spending eventually.

Yeah, but that small of a salary, considering we were going to have to sign depth at the WR position anyway, is nothing.

Where were you when I was trying to tell folks last off season that Jarvis was overrated?!?

Hey, I had your back during that.

I've got no issue with the Perriman deal. A one year $4 million "prove it" deal is great--it's good for us, good for him, and makes us a more favorable free agency destination in the league.

However, I cannot stand the people who think the Browns are way under the cap and aren't spending because they're cheap.

Don't believe I ever said that. I just said the Perriman deal was essentially nothing due to how much cap we have. I understand why we're not in a rush to spend it all and I don't think the team is being cheap at all.

To give some perspective, Calloway had the 3rd most receptions for a rookie last year behind Ridley playing opposite Julio and being thrown to by a former MVP and DJ More was the teams #1 Receiver unless you consider McCaffery a receiver.

Calloway essentially tied with Kirk across the board, who was his teams 2nd receiver while Calloway was 3rd.

All 3, Kirk, Ridley and More were 1st round picks and started all season. Plus all 3 played football last season.

Calloway is going to be very good. Rookie wide receivers suck, Calloway did not even come close to sucking. If we keep Jarvis, Calloway will pass him as the #1 receiver. Calloway because of the off field issues was an absolute steal. He not only has 1st round talent, he performed like a 1st round pick.
I agree! I was overjoyed with the Callaway pick. Called it right away that he'd be better than Corey Coleman...and he was, even with his early drop issues.

I can't wait to see Callaway next season after a full Summer working with Baker and with Kitchens as HC.

Someone at work asked me the other day if I'd trade a 1st and Callaway for OBJ. I said hell no.

Man if there's one thing I hate about the browns is how cheap they are. They have all this money and don't spend it to save money!

Better than Corey Coleman?

Way to go out on a limb there.

Did you also say at the combine he will run faster than Peyton Manning? lmao.

I mean, you have to consider the timing...half the board (at least) was still standing proudly on the Corey Coleman hill at that time.

Just checked the Day 3 draft thread, my first post about Callaway was that he was a 1st round talent. So there you go, ya fuck :chuckle:

Edit: On a related note, Callaway should really have his own thread..

I thought the starting point of the trade was

Cleveland
2019 1st
2020 1st
Ogbah

NY
OBJ
2020 2nd

I would think that is where NY starts at minimum. I would think NY looks at Mack trade and wants to start there.

Some of the discussion I listened to today about OBJ talked about how cap friendly his contract is for a proven top end receiver, but also how easy it would be to get out of his contract in a couple of years if we ever decided to move on for whatever reason. Same goes for Landry's contract, they said we could get out of that without huge problems in another year or two, and neither contract was anything close to cap crippling.

In context of some of this year's FA signings the $17 mil/year for OBJ is pretty reasonable when you consider bang for the bucks and replacement costs for comparable players.

I'm still skeptical the Giants would be willing to move off of OBJ for the kinds of offers we're seeing discussed. But they may be wanting to avoid their situation becoming something like the Steelers and AB where their return just gets lower and lower as time passes.

Adding OBJ makes the Browns a contender for the highest levels of the playoffs this year. It accelerates our window by at least 1-2 years. I fail to see why anyone would be against the move if it just costs #17 plus Ogbah and a 2020 pick. Any odds we find a receiver of OBJ's talent with the #17 or lower next year are microscopic at best. Proven young talent >>>>>>> draft picks.
