OSU's Self-imposed Sanctions

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
It's hard to predict the NCAA because consistency isn't the name of their game. Usually, there needs to be a failure to monitor or LOIC to have postseason bans. Those aren't likely forthcoming unless their is some surprise. The NCAA received a lot of bad press from allowing the tat 5 to play in the Sugar Bowl. They may feel that a one year bowl ban would be a mulligan of sorts for them. As for sticking with Tressel, who knows how the NCAA will interpret that? He is gone after all. Will they be mad because of OSU's clumsy press conference or because Tressel didn't leave soon enough? That's hard to say. It's pretty clear to me that OSU has cooperated with the investigation which is far more than USC did. Will that help them in the NCAA's mind. Again, who knows?

As for scholly losses, I think the precedent is usually around 2 for each ineligible player. So, OSU may get hit with 10-12 scholly losses. As a side note, and this is the homer in me, I think OSU is also being punished by this constant media blitz. It is hurting recruiting and IMO unfair to the university to allow them to just twist in the wind. Even for people that hate OSU, they should agree that they deserved to be judged and move forward and not have recruits being poached because of the uncertainty. But, I know they won't get any sympathy there.

Call it homerism if you want...but quite honestly it's the truth.

Look at the media coverage Oregon is receiving for their obviously worse infractions.

It's not hard to see the difference.

So, the NCAA really didn't look into anything after Tressel was asked to resign?

I didn't say that.

I think keeping Tressel would have put Gee and Smith in a chance that they are linked to Tressel.

I'm not sure why you think they would try to avoid making that connection just because Tressel was forced to resign.

They've shown a willingness to follow every lead in trying to go after this program. Which has largely been unsuccessful mind you.

Would love to hear your explanation why....I could use a good laugh.

I dont think they deserve one, I think Tressell deserved to be fired because lying to the NCAA is one of those things that you just dont recover from. That said, I think they end up with a bowl ban because of how pissed the NCAA is that the players end up playing(yes, I know the NCAA is just as much to blame as Tressell is at lying for the players playing).

The NCAA has allot of egg on their face from this whole situation, they messed up too. But, just like when you corner a pit vipor the snake strikes at you, the NCAA will feel cornered and strike at OSU and ban them from a bowl in 2011-2012.

Fair? Not sure. How the world works? Yes.

Wouldn't a bowl ban just be hitting yourself in the face with an egg?....I mean, the NCAA would come out looking like complete idiots if they went back and punished them more after clearing them to play based on $$

Not really, its their way of saying they shouldnt have played in the bowl and we wouldnt have let them play if Tressell hadnt lied to us. Its just my gut feeling. 10 scholorships and a 1 year bowl band. I could be wrong.

Also, you just lost your highest rated committed player to Michigain. He decommitted and went to UM over the sanctions. You will not only lose scholorships, but 5-10 top prospects wont go to your program over this.

Actually, it just means Kyle Kalis won't come to my program over this.
