The Indians are on the verge of acquiring Rangers outfielder Kenny Lofton, a source said Friday afternoon.
An official announcement could be made later today.
It's uncertain whom the Indians are giving up in the trade.
Indians General Manager Mark Shapiro and Assistant General Manager Chris Antonetti could not be reached.
Lofton is the Indians' all-time leading base stealer and a fan favorite. Lofton, 40, is hitting .303 with seven homers and 23 RBI for the Rangers. He has 21 steals, and he's making $6 million this year.
He most recently played for the Tribe from 1998 through 2001.

horrible trade
Cavs1 said:Hey at least we probably won't have to see much more of Delucchi or Nixon...I'd rather see Lofton/Michaels/Guttierrez out there.
Dellucci has been hurt for a month and he was actually playing OK when he did get hurt. The OF could now be Lofton getting the majority of time in left and Gutierrez in right. And Michaels was actually having a decent year. And we now have to figure out what to do with Francisco. Unless another deal is coming this trade doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me... just too many guys for too few positions.

I know nothing about him, but from what I've read we're getting ripped off.ChicagoCavFan said:I don't know much about that guy - the catcher. Is he really worth it? Seems we have a couple catchers ahead of him. Would he have had an opportunity in the bigs with us?
