Pick one to build a franchise around

I thought Bregman seemed like a likeable enough team player until the cheating thing.

I just remembered this thread...

Acuna turned out to be a large injury risk but is absolutely bonkers at hitting so far this year.
Vlad Jr. has been disappointing, relatively speaking.
Tatis the PED guy who somehow has found his way in the OF, and not exactly a role model.
Ohtani's record speaks for itself.

Hard not to say Ohtani was the right answer but a healthy Acuna is also damn good. But if the slight against Ohtani was that he is an injury risk, turns out others have that problem too.

I don't know if I agree on Vlad Jr...

He's still hitting .291/.355/.466...

No he's not doing the 1.000+ OPS that he did in 21, but he's still dang solid...

Though I am not sure how he won the gold glove lol

The Jeter Gold Glove.

If Vlad is going to be a top 5 MLB positional talent he's going to have to be much more than a top 5 hitting talent because he can't field very well and he can't run. While sure, he's been very good at hitting and is very good at hitting, apart from 2021 he hasn't been That Guy who completely dominates at the plate.

For comparison, I'd rather "build around" Yordan Alvarez or Juan Soto, similar kinds of guys who have really just produced more on average. I actually think that Vlad may have a little more raw talent than Alvarez but he hasn't really gotten to it all consistently.

Now I love Jose Ramirez as a player but if you get a slow version of him who can't play third base, that's essentially Vlad Jr so far.

Guerrero’s advanced stats at the plate are great, he has been unlucky this year based on how he’s been hitting the ball, but his position and defense would move him to the bottom of this list for me.
