Alot of talk recent has been on the big name guards, but we have had two threads about guys like Allan Houston and Michael Finley.

I think these two would be great players for our bench, they are both very capable scorers, but at this point, I dont think they are made for 30+ minutes for 82 games a year.

However, with the new rule in the salary cap, teams are allowed to release one player without being penalized by the luxury tax. They still have to pay their salaries, so this gives us the chance to offer them a very small contract.

• There's a quirk in the new collective-bargaining agreement that could end up helping the Cavaliers. Stay with me here; it is highly technical and complicated. Under the new rules, teams have a one-time chance to waive a player and not have his salary count against the luxury tax. Teams would still have to pay the salary, and it would count on the cap, just not when it comes to the tax. If the New York Knicks cut Allan Houston, it will save them $40 million, because they are way over the luxury-tax line and pay a dollar-for-dollar fee. The Mavericks could save $50 million by cutting Michael Finley.

We could very well end up with one of these guys for real real cheap, along with another player or two not mentioned here, and we can easily become a very deep team.

If we happen to sign Antonio Daniels, get Redd/Allen, re-sign Z. Our bench would look like this..

Snow
Houston/Finley
Jax/Newbs
AV
free agent

Depending on who we could get for height, that is a pretty nice bench.

If our bench ever looks like that, I will try my very 1st backflip attempt. Possibly a few of them in a row...

I dont mean to say we get both of them, I meant either or, if that was what you were excited about..

Kinda misleading there..

For the minimum where would you go if you where Houston or Finley? Cleveland or Miami,Houston,Spurs,Dallas,Detroit or any other playoff team from last year?

Even if/when either of those players are waived we will have to overpay to get them. Minimum offers won't cut it. (unless we offer a starting spot)

Finely could be guarenteed a starting job here. I am not sure about Allan Houston though. He has missed so much action that I would be hesitant to rush him into the lineup.

I do however see either of them going to a contender and not a "possible contenter" At least for Finley anyways.

that would be nice. but its hard to imagine us pulling it off because of the terrible luck we have as well as not haveing a g.m. or president at the present time.

cali RELAX!!!!!!!!!!!! we have several beer vendors that are more then capable of hammering out a deal.... as long as you have change :chuckles:

This new provision in the new CBA is a bonus for the Cavs. It should make the FA market deeper and give them more to choose from.
Not only could Finley and Houston get waived but there could be many other players who can still play and help a team that could become available.
Like was mentioned earlier though, players like Finley and Houston are more likely to sign with a contender instead of the Cavs. But other veterans would be more likely to come to Cleveland. It also is rumored that Doug Christie could be waived by Orlando. He's more the level of player who would give the Cavs more depth and couldbe realistically signed.

Christie would be a good option. Great D, good passing skills(even plays some pg i think), and a nice shot. He could fit well here.

If we do flunk on the free agent market and miss Redd/Hughes/Allen/Johnson, Christie at the right price is an option for a short term deal. Doug sharing minutes with Jackson and Pavlovic would be the worst tandom running around. So where then do we spend our money?

As the article mentioned, Houston and Finley arent the only guys out there. I just brought up those two because they are two of the better players.

There are plenty of players who will probably get the axe with this new rule.

One might even be Ruben Patterson out of Portland whod I love to have here.

but the dude is soft, and doesn't work well under pressure...

plus he's just F-ING weird, he's got all those in game hand gestures with his wife. speaking of his wife, i hear she is a pain in the ass to deal with..

NO DOUG CHRSTIE.............................PLEASE

Shareef Abdul Raheem, rings a bell because there was rumors all year last year how they want him to go.. if you cant get anything for him than possibly release him.. he's a guy that can play SF or PF and has a nice decent shot.. But its a ? mark right now because we dont know if Gooden will be here or if we sign Redd/Allen etc. Because if we dont sign them than bron can get moved to SG and than shreef can play SF or something..

Edit: Just realized in an other thread that SAR is going to be a free agent..

Im not saying that im dying to have him here or anything. If we miss out on other free agents we may have to settle for him(if he gets waived). Hes better than nothing. Hes still a sevicable role player.
