That seems the most likely scenario in free agency, and should leave enough cash to get a decent backup center. WOuld that make for a successful free agency period, or should we shoot for something else?

Allen + Z + Jasikevicius is probably doable, but leaves us with only league minimum to get a backup center.

Antonio Daniels instead of Jasikevicius is a possibility too, but I think Jasikevicius will prove to be a bargain, and signing Z will likely lure him here. And Antonio Daniels probably costs more than Jasikevicius.

The 3 guys mentioned in the title is the 3 guys I want signed this off season. If we get all three, we have had a successfull offseason and a possible close to successfull season ahead.

I love the scenario of getting these three. Just imagine Lebron and Z drawing double and triple teams and dishing the ball out to a wide open Redd or Saras. It could be deadly. Or it could work the other way around and teams wont double and triple team Z and LBJ because they dont want to leave the shooters open. Still deadly.

LeBron needs to kick in some Nike money. I'm sure if James' wishes it Nike would give Redd a shoe deal, or at the very least get sprite to let him be the voice the Sprite doll...

Show em' my motto!

Another way to frame this is to convince Redd is that playing for a championship team is a gold mine in terms of endorsements.

Remember how many national commercials such uncharismatic guys as Billups and Wallace got. Redd would be getting some of the action

would be the ideal for me too. i wonder how the D would be, but the offense would have a BUNCH of options.

If this is the team the Cavs put on the court maybe someone can answer me 1 question--who the hell is going to play defense on that team.

I'll be the 1st to admit it would be great to watch and a great scoring club but I'll be the 1st one to tell you that you can forget winning a championship with that many defensive liabilities!!!

Your starting lineup would be Z, Gooden, LBJ, Saruanas, and Redd.

That is an atrocious defensive squad :eekrun: (If God was coaching that team the defense would still stink)and if you want to win a championship you need good defensive role players to play off your scorers.

That starting lineup has no defense at all much less a defensive stopper a la Bruce Bowen or Tayshaun Prince.

I'm sorry but I don't want to be the Kings, Mavs, or Suns and be saying we can outscore anyone because in the NBA playoffs trying to outscore good defensive teams just doesn't work!

I agree, I would prefer Daniels over Saruanas just because of his defense. I am guessing Ferry might pick him also. If you look at what Daniels did against the spurs in the playoffs (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?statsId=3175) the games where he had his most minutes, Parker has his worst offensive games. Almost the same in the Sacramento series with Bibby. I wish I could remember the games a bit more and exactly the kind of games AD played. I hope Ferry remembers. :D

I also love that Daniels met the challenge with more minutes in the playoffs. Twelve points a game on the season is great considering how many scorers the sonics had this year. 2nd in the legue assists per turnover wow! He is also from Columbus :D. I am just going by the stats its hard to remember anything exactly of what I saw in games of Daniels. I pick AD,Redd,Lebron :king: ,Gooden,Z as my favorite starting 5 next year.

I completely agree with you Disector. This is why I wish to move Gooden. This is if we get Redd and Saruanaus/Daniels. We have plentiful scorers so a deal with Gooden, with maybe Sasha could get us an athletic four who can play some defense. Not sure who we could get, but I think Drew is an awkward fit with a starting lineup that has 4 other scorers. Drew as hard as he may try, will always have a scorers mentality.

He is also from Columbus .

Damn, is that like a record? lol. We would have like the most players from in state? LeBron, Redd, AD, and who alse?

Correct me if I am wrong, but Eric Snow is of Ohio heritage? Well according to my head he is.

Trade could help convince All-Star to stay with Cavs

CLEVELAND - When you hear the name Martynas Andriuskevicius, think Zydrunas Ilgauskas.

That's a mouthful, but it was the thoughtful Cavaliers who made a wide-ranging deal for both Tuesday.

In acquiring the 7-foot-2 Andriuskevicius in a draft-night trade with the Orlando Magic, the Cavaliers got a 19-year-old prospect to be sure. But they also sent an enormous goodwill gesture that might be the foundation for getting their All-Star of the moment, Ilgauskas, re-signed in the coming weeks.

Ilgauskas and Andriuskevicius don't know each other, but they are from the same town in Lithuania and share more than just a language and heritage. They also have the same agent, Herb Rudoy. Now, everyone might have a better understanding, too.

At the end of the regular season, Ilgauskas was angered by the new Cavaliers ownership's treatment of his contract situation. The two sides exchanged numbers, they were way apart, and there was little talk. For the past two months, Ilgauskas was seriously believing that he might be playing elsewhere next season.

Now, things appear to have changed again. The hiring of Danny Ferry, one of Ilgauskas' best friends, as general manager was a great start.

Tuesday, as Andriuskevicius was sliding down the draft board and into the second round, the Cavaliers reached a deal with the Magic. The Magic drafted Andriuskevicius with the 44th pick for the Cavaliers. Soon, the Cavaliers likely will make him a handsome contract offer that includes several years guaranteed.

Ferry, Ilgauskas, and Andriuskevicius all had dinner Wednesday. They ate high-priced steaks while talking about high-priced stakes.

Only a few teams can afford and want Ilgauskas, and none of them made the playoffs last season. Ilgauskas has said repeatedly he wants to come back to the Cavaliers. The two sides are apart on money and years, but the gap that seemed quite wide just a few days ago appears to have lessened.

I thought so too, but I just wasn't sure, so I decided not to bring it up.

that might not give us a lot of defense in the starting lineup, but we do hae some solid defenders on the bench - Snow, Newble, AV. Drew can play solid defense at times too. He showed spurts last year, but like all aspects of his game, didn't do it consistently. Diop, if he stays for the league minimum, is a solid defender.

I expect LeBron to come back a much stronger defender too. He has the potential, he hasn't had a coach yet ask him to play defense. So when we want to shut the other team down, we put

Snow/Newble/LeBron/AV/Diop on the court when we want to shut the other team down
Jasikevicius/Redd/LeBron/Drew/Z when we want to light up the other team - or even Jasikevicius/Redd/Jackson/LeBron/Z or Jasikevicius/Redd/Jackson/LeBron/Drew. Is it just me, or does bringing in Jasikevicius and Redd while retaining Z give us a better/deeper version of last years suns while also giving us defensive options they didn't have?
