RGIII: Hardly Knew Thee

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I'd 100% prefer him learn from a vet QB who will willingly teach the rookie(s) we draft. McCown has a lot to teach and has said he'd be more that willing to teach a rookie for a year or two. RG3 doesn't have much to teach and he will have no interest in teaching.
I was so happy when Johnny and his drama left town. Now we go and bring more drama back in. One of the Redskins players recently told some Browns players that RG3 had a lot of locker room conflicts and he's just not a leader. Why would we want someone with that rep around our rookie QB...or anyone on our team for that matter?

Not to mention, RG3 is damaged goods...as i predicted he would be when many here wanted to draft him.

Browns being Browns.

McCown is going to be a great quarterbacks coach someday, perhaps even an offensive coordinator. I remember thinking the same about Gary Kubiak and Jason Garrett back in the late 80s and early 90s. But... we are talking about the position of starting quarterback in the NFL. Aspects of someone's personality that make them great 2nd or 3rd stringers shouldn't be prioritized in a starter.

Not to play devil's advocate but people can change. He hasn't had a conventional career in the NFL. Going from a promising rookie of the year to an injured, mentally-wracked QB would take it's toll on anyone.

A new environment with lowered expectations may be what he needs. If more rumors come out about his poor locker room habits, his leash will be even shorter. Hopefully, he realizes that.

Browns forever throwing shit at the wall

The wording on this is a little weird. Why isn't it "*Let's* show em how it's done"?

Millions of people are also voting for Donald Trump to be our president. The world is littered with stupid people.
Oh I know. A team just spent millions of dollars on a QB nobody else wanted.

6.75 Million when you are more then 30 million under the cap is not a huge deal. They can cut him next summer, and it wont hurt them. The only concern is how it affects the Qb taken at 2. If this is handled well money should not be an issue. He has more talent then MCcown, and I would rather see him then Mcown week 1. Now by week 8 or 9, I would hope Goff will be our starting QB.

If we keep McCown, he is 4.5 million next year.

This move to me shows we rather have RG3 as the backup/bridge qb than a 37 year old McCOwn.

I wish i could get more excited about the signing because i do think he is done, but its the type of low risk high reward signings you should expect from a team building around analytics.

Couldn't they potentially have both? Davis is owed next to nothing on a per year basis. He's easy to move in a meaningless trade or simply cut outright.

Seems like there's a possibility to retain McCown as a backup, who would mentor Goff from the sidelines.

Wether or not RGIII is a willing participant in that seems moot to me as long as there is a voice within the locker-room that will help a young guy along.

Also, guys change when they get kicked to the curb. My guess is RGIII's self-entitlement was at least brought back down to earth a bit by his treatment and eventual release in Washington. He has the physical tools to be a good NFL QB, so it's worth the flyer to me seeing as how rookie QB's aren't exactly guarantees.

I just don't see the real downside in offering him a short deal. Hue likes him and thinks he can fix him. That's good enough for me.....especially given the cost of acquiring him.

Will you (or anyone else) still like this deal if they don't draft a QB in the first round?

Not drafting a qb at 2 is a very poor decision with or without RG3. It would tell me what we still dont have the right people in place. Nothing has changed, if we dont have very good drafts over the next 3 years, WE WONT WIN.
