Ricky Rubio - Take the Money and Limp

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
If he doesn’t want to resign here, then they have to move his contract at the deadline to get a viable player. He flat out said he doesn’t like the rumors.
That’s seals the deal. Everyone loved this guy, and still will, but if the contract can net a player to help now, it’s a no brainer. Probably was before this too, but is validated after this.
Agreeed dude being a lil bitch. The suns and wolves did fuck him over but the Cavs were even deciding to keep him even after injured and he goes and wants to play with steph guck that bye dude

He wont make more than the MLE. His injury can be a career ender and he will miss half the season and might not be back to full strength till the following season when he is 33 if he ever gets back to full strength.

It was always a very high probability that Ricky was going to be 1 & done with the Cavs. His age & contract had largely determined that even before the injury. I wish we would have gotten the full year, but we didn’t, so now it’s time to do what was always the plan - move him and find his replacement.

Damn…. One little mention of Steph Curry and Rubio is dead to most….
Naw he’ll still be liked here. But he’s complaining a bit when he couldn’t stay on the court. It’s not like the Cavs wanted him to blow out his knee, again.
Just another reminder that players do not favor Cleveland as a destination. The FO should move him without hesitation.
Steph and Klay- smh. At least he didn’t openly pine for Durant and Kyrie.

Rubio would be so deadly on Golden State. That really sucks he doesn’t seem interested in signing here in the summer. He was obviously so valuable for us, but if he wants to go elsewhere, you definitely gotta trade that contract now.

This is a bunch of nothing... He simply said its hard on him and his family to be in trade rumors every year. Then the interviewers brought up Golden State because of their interest in him when we may have bought him out last offseason and he said it would be great to play with Klay and Steph.

Honestly, who wouldn't say that if you were a pass-first PG on the trade block every year and someone brought up the team with 2 of the greatest shooters ever?

Ricky is fine, in my book. Still, I say trade his salary, while we can, to a team looking for cap relief! If he wants to come back next year on a cheap contract, re-sign him as a FA and hope he's ready to go for the 2nd half/playoff push. If not, he was a hell of a player for us for ~1/2 a season and he helped groom Garland. No bad feelings from me over here.

Imagine wanting to trade a guy, despite the positive impact he's had on your favorite team, then getting mad he mentions playing with two of the most ideal teammates would be fun *when asked*...

Maybe if folks weren't so quick to toss him in hypothetical trades he wouldn't be willing to leave. How many times did we hear this was the happiest he's been in the League? Instead of rallying around him, fans want to move him for Caris frigging Levert? Or an older Eric Gordon? I don't blame him for being willing to play elsewhere when folks were packing his bags for him.

Both sides of this argument are being ridiculous, and frankly embarrassing.

Nobody should get butthurt if Rubio entertains signing with a team that’s a perennial championship contender, when winning a ring is his main remaining objective of playing in the NBA.

Similarly, Rubio did not get “run out of town”. Fans loved him when he played and he was a fantastic contributor for us this season. He’s not going to be dissuaded from re-signing here because fans are too sensitive or trying to trade an injured expiring contract, which is nothing but a sensible move considering he can’t play until next season anyway. Just about every other team would be trying to do the same thing in our position.

At the end of the day, fans have little to no impact on a player’s free agency decision, and it’s naive to think otherwise.

Do you guys realize that you're arguing about stuff that is based on a BS click bait article in US based media ? In the real interview in Spanish media the journo asked Rubio about a rumor from last summer about Warriors thinking (naively) that Cavs might buy out Rubio and then they would sign him to vet min contract. Ricky just said that in that case playing on a team with Curry and Klay would be great. That's just a talk about a hypothetical scenario from the past.

Is it true we can trade him and resign him or does the tream trading for him have to waive him for that to work'?

We can't resign him this season if we trade him away. Also not sure why we would want to do that and take up a roster spot. He will be a free agent in the offseason so we can resign him then.

If they want him around once he is waived, they might be able to bring him in as a consultant. I know once a player is paid as a consultant that they can't be brought in as a player for that season but the rule might not be the other way around.

Isn’t kinda crazy to me cause I’d be shocked if the Cavs did not have their backup PG situation solidified by time Rubio can play basketball again…
