I think it's a wasted roster spot. I like Rubio but he won't be able to play until January and who knows what level of recovery he'll have. Spending some of the MLE on him and taking up a roster spot for a guy that can't play doesn't make any sense to me.Fedor keeps reporting that Rubio will be back which is great hope its true

Ricky was on the sidelines for some of the home games if not all of 'em rocking a magnificent wardrobe to match that lush mane he has rocking. It's definitely a risk to sign him at the beginning of the season or off season but they can sign him when he gets healthy if they keep the MLE available. The money could be the same for Rubio regardless since they don't have to prorate the MLE. I thought drafting a PG would have made alot of sense to take the developmental minutes that could be available before Rubio came back healthy.
The other question is if Rubio would even come to camp and be around the team until he is healthy. I don't think he was around the team after he got injured, maybe someone else can confirm if they saw him on the sidelines during any games. If he is willing to be with the team until he is healthy then he could at least give some mentorship.

I wonder if his relationship with Kevin Love contributed to Love's 180° attitude reversal and improved play last year. Another Rubio advantage if he's healthy.Ricky was on the sidelines for some of the home games if not all of 'em rocking a magnificent wardrobe to match that lush mane he has rocking.
While he had an ACL injury on the same knee multiple times now and he is a little older with tons and tons of basketball miles on his legs, I'm optimistic he'll recover well given our modern recovery methods from ACL injuries as opposed to years past. He's such a good defender and hopefully he doesn't lose too much there, his offense I'm not worried about at all. He's a savant on the court and will be able to maestro it up, Risky Ricky passes/turnovers and all. Ricky has historically been a low percentage shooter and hopefully that doesn't decrease much further.
Really want him back (my personal priority 1 of the off season after the DG extension) and I do believe he would provide an excellent mentorship role before his return to the court running the point while being next to DG and others in the backcourt.
Good point about Rubio and Och off the bench- we’ve seen it with shooters like Cedi and Love and how they played so well with Rubio. Imagine it with Och - Rubio is going to find him in many ways.Branching off of the Ricky appreciation - I can't wait to see Ochai Agbaji enter the game off the bench with Ricky.
@bronko brought up how much better Love plays on offense when on the court with Rubio. It's because he gets a shooter the ball on time and in rhythm, which Love rarely enjoyed after LeBron left.
Ricky is a known rookie whisperer, and once his body is right I know he can help Och develop as his on-court coach.
Some of the talk in the rumor mill is Cedi money - which I'm not down with due to the risk.Depends on how much he wants....
The roster spot isn't a big deal -- especially in the current NBA when your two-way guys can play a pretty large number of games.... Especially near the beginning of the season when the team is (hopefully) relatively healthy.
I still have a feeling we won't see Ricky in the NBA again.
He still has a LONG rehab in front of him, and he's never been someone who can handle being the 7th guy on a roster.
I think he finishes his career in Spain, where he's a national hero and can start for one of the top teams even after two ACL surgeries, at age 32.
