- At 66-16 (.805), Cleveland finished with the NBA’s best regular season record and was a league best 26-5 (.839) since the All-Star break, including 11-4 (.733) on the road. The Cavaliers’ 66 wins are the most wins in franchise history for a season and made them the 12th team in NBA history to win at least 66 wins in a season. Nine of the previous 11 teams that have won 66 games finished the season winning the NBA championship. The Cavaliers tied the 1971-72 L.A. Lakers for 2nd in NBA history for the largest improvement in wins (21) of all teams that won at least 45 games in the previous season. (STATS, Inc.)
- The Cavaliers enter the postseason winners of five of their last six games overall and three consecutive games against the Pistons this season. The Cavaliers and Pistons will meet in the NBA Playoffs for the third time in franchise history, all in the last four seasons. The Cavaliers lead the all-time playoff series 7-6 while Cleveland has won five of its six home games against Detroit in the playoffs. Entering the series, Cleveland has won four straight playoff games against the Pistons.
- The Cavs won the season series 3-1 for the first time since the 1997-98 season. In the four games this season, the Cavs averaged 89.3 points on .433 shooting while holding Detroit to 81.8 points on .411 shooting from the field.
- The last time the Cavs faced the Pistons in a playoff series, Cleveland won 4-2 in the 2007 ECF. The Pistons won the first two games in Detroit only to have the Cavaliers take the next four games, becoming the 3rd team in NBA history to rally from 2-0 deficit in the conference finals to capture a seven-game series.
- For the regular season the Cavaliers ranked 1st in overall opponent points allowed per game, the only NBA team to allow less than 93.0 points, at 91.4 (Pistons were 8th at 94.7), ranked 2nd in defensive field goal percentage, allowing opponents to only shoot .431 from the field (Pistons were 8th at .451), and ranked 1st in defensive three-point field goal percentage at .333 for the season (Pistons were 9th at .354).
