One thing about the eternal pessimists like Austin, is I always got a good laugh at him when the Cavs would come back and pull a game out after having to endure over an hour of moaning from him because the Cavs came out cold and he'd go in to his schpeil "If they keep playing like this Michael, there's no way they can win!"

ugh

What the hell is the Ironwood Daily Globe?

Even though this column praises McLeod it demonstrates the reason why most don't like the idea of him being forced upon Cavs fans. He's a biased homer with no objectivity. To me that's the worst kind of broadcaster. Some homerism is to be expected but at least those doing Cavs fans always had soem objectivity and would criticize the team if necessary.

Maximus I don't buy the Cavs and Gilbert's spin of McLeod coming home to Cleveland and bringing up Reghi is originally from Detroit.
McLeod hasn't worked in Cleveland and has worked in Detroit for almost a quarter of a century. He's been associated and been a homer for a hated division rival during most of that time.
Reghi has worked in Ohio during that period. He was a sports anchor in Toledo and Cleveland. Been known for long time by fans in Ohio for his work on MAC sports broadcasts and other college events and has done Cavs games for a very long period.

Gilbert can do what he wants but sports teams are major parts of cities and what the fans like should be considered more than it has been in some decisions.
Announcers don't win or lose games but they do effect fans ability to enjoy watching their team.

I also expect to be having this same discussion next summer after Joe Tait supposedly "retires" and another handpicked Gilbert homer who won't say anything negative about the organization is hired.

Check out Windhorst's latest blog. He brings up some interesting info on Gilbert in it.

Most Def. I think Gilbert undervalued the fans love for Reghi. Hope he becomes more aware of the pulse of the fans in the future.

That Globe article gives me more encouragement for Mcleod. He seemed to effect that writer like Reghi has effected many of us. Ill keep an open mind and see what Mcleod has got.

In BWinds blog he mentions that Gilbert has fired employees for being negative. This is an area of the Cleveland fan base that I think could be better. Yeah C-Town has had some heartbreak, but it seems like a pessimistic sports city. Hopefully Gilbert can lift the spirit of the city with his decisions and bring a title here. I dont want it to be "everything's so wonderful" while the sky is falling and birds are shitting on your head, but i respect Gilberts passion for positivity.

I'm not saying that's the Cav's spin and i don't think it is....I was merely replying to Jigo who said "he's a goddamn Pistons fan. Why the hell would he want to announce for the Cavs?" I don't think it should be so shocking that McLeod who was born and raised as a Cavs fan, and announced Cav's games in 1980 would want to take a job back in Cleveland. McLeod left Cleveland and took a job in Detroit...no different than life-long Piston fan Reghi getting paid to come to Cleveland and become a Cav's fan.

Now the Tait conspiracy begins. C'mon Narl...he's acts 100 years old and can barely walk. It is sad to watch him walk the hallway. He's been planning on retiring since long before DG came along. Just because they don't see eye to eye doesn't mean he's getting run out of town.

Gilbert deserves a lot more appreciation than he's getting....some people are treating him like he traded Lebron. The guy has done a lot for this city since his arrival a short time ago and we are lucky as hell to have him.
We could do a lot worse than Dan Gilbert.

I love Dan Gilbert and what he has done for our team

I just wish he wouldnt have fired Reghi thats all....I loved that guy

my fav saying....Careelooss Boooozer

Gilbert has done some good things so far but I'm not ready to call him a great owner until I see what happens over a much longer period. For me the jury is still out on him. I will admit I now judge him more harshly and more closely.

So far the best things he's done are probably the new Cavs practice facility and overhaul of the locker room. Those are things that could have a direct effect on the most important part of the franchise--the talent on the court.

Some of the other things he's done towards game "atmosphere" don't matter to me at all or really don't effect the success of the team.

I'm not 100% sold on how much credit Gilbert should get for the Cavs success last season. This team could have been just as successful without him. Most of the Cavs key players were already here when he took over. He inherited approx. $29 milllion in cap space and someone could question a year later whether it was spent as wisely as it could have been. That money would have been spent even if Gund was still owner. Looking back at Cavs history when the Cavs had a real chance to be successful, Gund was always willing to pay for talent. It was only in recent years when the team was torn down to rebuild and create cap space that it changed. Jim Paxson's imcompetence didn't help.

I'm not going to say Gilbert is bad. Like I said I agree with and like some of what he's done. I'm just not ready to say he's a great owner who can I can just go along with every decision he makes. Some of his moves and manor in which he operates seem Stepienesque.

Sorry to double post.

I guess you know it's a slow offseason when a lot of the discussions are about play by play annoucers and PA announcers.

I'm going to try not to ramble on about Reghi, Duncan and Gilbert anymore. I don't agree with some decisions but the most important thing is the Cavs being succesful and winning on the court.

This offseason is on the way towards an F..

Anybody think that a guy who wears that much makeup, shouldn't be broadcasting?

:chuckles:

At which point do you hand it out ?

I would say it was an F about 3 weeks ago.

An "F" ?

In case you guys forgot... we signed LeBron James this summer ...

You know what we mean...

I have said I agree with and like some moves Gilbert has made. I only am going to wait for a longer period to pass before coming to a complete judgment on him.

I also meant that the manor in which Gilbert operates in some areas could compare to a former owner.
Some change is fine but I'm not crazy about other forced changes based more on the owner's personal opinion and not the feelings of many fans. As an owner it's his right to do as he pleases.

Sports franchises can't always been run like other businesses in every area though.

With the way Gilbert is throwing money around I also can't think fans should expect the luxury tax to be a major issue in adding talent and trying to put the best team possible on the floor. After all the most important thing is producing on the court. Despite all the flash and style if the team doesn't win there's going to be a 1/2 full arena.

Like I said I'm only waiting for a longer time to pass before totally judging Gilbert. I admit I've sometimes been more emotional than practical in some posts. I've posted too much on these issues so I'm going to try to avoid anymore discussion about them.

He is building the best practice facility in the NBA $20M.
He is getting them a new 767 plane.
He overhauled the locker room.
They are making major improvements to the arena- new seats, new floor, more seats, they are building bunker suites that are already sold out.
All this is done to make a better experience for the fans and more attractive to free agents.
That's pretty agressive and impressive so far considering he has only had the team for a little over a year. He is throwing money at everything he can and wants to have the best of everything for the Cleveland Cavaliers. You may not agree with them all...but that's what he is trying to do.

Aside from your dislike for the Reghi move...what are the Stepienesque moves he has been making???

And this all means a damn if Eric Snow is our starting point guard for the upcoming 06-07 season.
