So Long, Jadeveon Clowney

Do Not Sell My Personal Information

I'm not a massive fan of him coming off the EDGE, but put him inside, set Takk outside on 3rd down and watch them crush.

All the metrics( run game grade, double team rate, pass rush win rate % - top 5 in all three since 2018) show that even if Clowney doesn’t get sacks, he is still massively disruptive, impactful, and creating great value both on his own and for his teammates

Couple that with his run stopping and edge setting and it seems like Edge is exactly the spot he should be at.

Math seems fairly simple, given health for all three, Myles gets

75% of snaps
Clowney and Takk split the remaining 125% with a favor slightly to the one who is performing the best

Since both Myles and Clowney will both occasionally slide inside, that will open up more Edge snaps for Takk + whoever is first man in amongst Gustin, Weaver, or a rookie DE if they add one

Being a team that plays Baltimore twice a year, his edge setting ability along with his overall athleticism is a perfect fit in terms of trying to stop Lamar Jackson. Jackson has absolutely gashed the Browns with his feet. Keeping him off the edges could do wonders in terms of slowing him down.

Coaches want a defense in which the front four get as much pressure as possible to allow for seven guys to drop into coverage ... hello, Takk and Malik and Jadeveon.

THIS is what it's like to have a GM and coaching staff rowing in the same direction, right? To not be throwing each other's work into the trash followed by a "now let's talk some football, boys"?

I think I'm more excited about that reality than I am about any of the specific players the Browns have acquired. We're finally fans of a smart team that makes smart decisions. Doesn't mean that every decision will pan out -- we know going in that some won't, actuarially -- but as long as the process is a sound and evolving one that routinely produces good decisions, good results will follow.

I don’t think Berry makes the Clowney move if he knew it meant losing Sheldon. LOVE IT.. Clowney opposite of Garrett and with this secondary will be very effective. This contract will be a bargain

I don't need to imagine, as I was one for most of the past 20 years.
Outside of Lebron, the Cavs have pretty much been as bad or worse than the Browns have been.
