Steven Kwan Appreciation Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Seems you used BR's WAR for Rodriguez and FG's WAR for Kwan?

Naw, I actually used Baseball reference, but when I am looking at it now, I must have looked at it before they updated it...

Your numbers aren't wrong, I just looked at it at a different time...

If they are that close, then you cannot rule out Kwan getting it...

Right now Julio is in the lead numbers wise, with Pena and Rutschman close... AL is going to be very contested since all 4 have done well. How they finish the season will rank them. I don't see any pitchers even on the mix honestly. It will be down to those 4 then Burke taking the fifth spot. Witt doesn't even have the credentials to be with those four...

Why not?

Kwan is an impact player...even without putting many balls over the fence. And, as we've seen so many times in baseball, contact hitters often gain power as their careers advance.

Eloy Jimenez hit 31 HR in his rookie season. Everybody labeled him as an impact player. In 504 PAs he was worth 1.4 WAR.

Kwan has hit 3 HR this year. In 447 PAs he has been worth 2.8 WAR.

Kwan is the answer to my prayer for the next Michael Brantley...and so far he has been better than Brantley.

Stop with just using hits, do you like Kwan or not?

Rodriguez is at 4.1 WAR and Kwan is at 2.8 WAR. Rodriguez though eventually will come down some, but he has still put up the numbers to essentially win it. This has been a solid group of rookies around the league...
J-Rod has 19 doubles, 19 HRs, 21 steals, he can possibly finish with 25 in all 3.

Kwan is a dazzling Rook, but unfortunately the class is deep.

ESPN shows Rodriguez with a 4.1 WAR. And they show Kwan with a 3.5 WAR. Whereby WAR is a cool stat, it's not the be all and end all. The value to his individual team needs to be measured as well when selecting ROY.

Yeah, BR updated right after I looked, so my numbers were wrong lol

There is four position players, JRod, Kwan, Pena and Rutschman who all deserve votes in then AL ROY race...

I believe there is 30 voters and they decide their top 3 and whoever gets the most points wins kind of thing. All four of those AL Candidates have very good credentials...

Wow, our team really has some of the sneakiest speed. We knew Rosario was a speedster but guys like Hosey, Kwan, Andres, Straw, and even OGon can easily go 1st to 3rd, or easily beat out a DP ball, or turn a single to the OF into a hustle 2 bagger (Jose's speciality). That type of play gives you advantages come October.

2 different WARs used in the above. Correct comparison is:

4.1 vs 3.6

or

3.0 vs 2.8.

Yes, Kwan is actually in that same realm, at least so far for this season. There is only a .020 OPS difference between the two.
and Rodriguez has been out for how many weeks? It's not close. You can watch them and see that it's not close. If Kwan beats out Rodriguez for ROY then I'll apologize to everyone.

I don't want this to turn into something it's not. I really like Kwan. We haven't had a leadoff like him in what seems like forever. He's a keeper and a big reason this team is doing so well.

Can Kwan be Lofton to Julio’s Listach?

They have played basically the same amount of games, it's like 3 more for one of them.

I am also not saying Kwan is ROY, I am just pointing out Kwan isn't that far behind Rodriguez this season, that original post had Kwan's WAR wrong. For WAR they really aren't that far off, and I was really surprised to see their OPS was only .020 off when comparing them.

As far as ROY, to me, Rutschman probably would get my vote. Has like a 3.4 WAR in 30 less games.

There is also his first time taking the field that might just be making me biased, as I know if I ever got that dream chance, I would have done the same.

Much different player than Kenny IMO, but there is more than one way to skin a cat when it comes to being a valuable, effective leadoff hitter.
Yeah, I was a bit opaque with that comment. Lofton finished second in ROY but had the much better career. That’s what I was driving at
