Summer League Game 2 -- Cavs vs. Grizzlies -- Sunday, July 14, 2013, 8:00pm EST

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Dion found his rhythm in the 2nd half. Nice bounce back from him, and surprisingly he kept up the defensive effort all game. Good improvement over Friday. Now we gotta eliminate the swiping for the ball and we'll be on our way.

Felix's offensive game came back down to earth tonight. He wasn't any better than Alonzo off the bounce and leading fast breaks. He's gotta be smart and know when to pull the ball back and get it to a guard. Good defense from him tonight too.

Im going to say what noone else here wants to admit...

Dion Waiters looks better as a point guard than a shooting guard. Everytime I watch him play.

I agree that it seems Dion is at his best with the ball in his hands, putting pressure on the defense, and distributing (aka, not shooting).

Can Kyrie add that Steph curry-off the ball offense, that allows us to best utilize Dions strengths?

These two need to watch some old school Bad Boy Pistons game tape, and try to emulate the Dumars Isiah backcourt ( whereIsiah often played off the ball)

I wouldn't say that is necessarily the case. Team fit plays a huge role. And some guys are just wired to be more of a 6th man type. It really isn't a criticism. Dion just has a 6th man vibe. Better with the ball than without the ball.

So is Jarret Jack. So who's starting.

Quinn's going to be sent down to the Isengard NBDL affiliate.

I see someone else was flipping between Two Towers and the game!

EDIT: Was hoping Dellavedova would really separate himself from Quinn, but he didn't. Quinn was bad, but Dellavedova sure didn't wow out there. If you watched that game, knowing nothing else about the Cavs, you walk away thinking Waiters is by far the best PG of the bunch. If Kyrie goes down and Jack starts and needs someone to give him a blow at PG, I'd rather just start playing a guy like Felix for Waiters in spots so then Waiters can come in for Jack and run the point than give the ball to Quinn or Dellavedova. See if I can word this better. If Kyrie goes down, and Jack needs a blow at point, instead of actually giving minutes to Quinn/Dellavedova, I'd rather just have Felix get those minutes, sub in for Waiters earlier, and then have Waiters sub in for Jack and run the point.

As for Waiters playing off the ball, I really need to see him with some better passers out there. Right now, no one can play off the ball when Chris Quinn is running the show and be effective.

anyone else think they'll start quinn again?
He is not making a case. Delladova was 1-10 and still +11. Quinn is really really terrible. Fortunately with Jack we will never see him again...

I really don't care if Felix can't create off the dribble -- that won't be his job. It will be his job to rebound and get the team additional possessions, and there is plenty of evidence from this game that he can and will do that.

If he could create off the dribble, he wouldn't have been picked in the second round. If he can consistently knock down open threes and play solid defense, he'll be a good role player in the NBA. The real question is whether or not he can do either. I've liked what I've seen from him in Summer League, but it remains Summer League and, thus, pretty meaningless. I'm encouraged by his work ethic, though.

This is really terrible to watch. Also, I mean this as a compliment: Dion just has a 6th man vibe right now. Won't know until Kyrie is able to play with him, but I wouldn't be shocked if Dion is coming off the bench by midseason. Will be interesting to see how Jack's and Waiter's roles on the team evolve this year. One of the bigger stories to follow imo.

No. He's a starter. I didn't even watch the game and I can tell you that. And if he starts coming off the bench I can guarantee that regardless of the outcome he's leaving as soon as he gets the chance.

If you watched the game and think Delladova was not better than Quinn or "did not seperate" himself from Quinn, then I dont trust your analysis on players in-game.

There was no comparison between the two.

The real question is, why in the hell did Higgins warrant such a long look as backup PG and why in the hell did Quinn and Higgins get more minutes than Delladova.

I have to believe the Cavs already have a pretty good idea about Delladova or what they intend to do with him, and are trying to get him to camp with less interest from other teams or a lucrative offer from overseas.

There's really no point of bringing Dion off the bench. The fact is that he'll play about the same amount of minutes with Kyrie as if he started (which is around 24 minutes or so), so, regardless of whether or not he comes off the bench, he'll have to deal with about 24 minutes of not being the main ball handler every game. For the future, we can always have someone like Karasev as our back-up 2/3 who plays 24 minutes at the two and spot minutes at the 3. This is a summer league game. The season hasn't even started yet. None of our players have improved as much as they will have by the end of the summer league. There's still time to fix things. Relax, guys.
