To quote Denny Green, Eyenga is "who we thought he was"
Basically he showed all the positives and negatives we already knew from him.
Positives
+He's a supreme athlete. He easily won two jump balls and had an absolutely ridiculous high flying dunk at one point. He also uses his athleticism pretty well around the basket to get garbage type points.
+He really hustles his ass off. The kid is always flying around out there which you don't normally see from guys with elite athleticism. Those are the guys that usually tend to coast around.
+His body looks bigger from a glance. He looks like he's comfortably added some weight even though he does still appear to be wiry. I think a full year in an NBA weight lifting and conditioning program would be great for him.
Negatives
-He really has no idea what to do with the basketball in an isolation situation. He doesn't appear to have any sort of dribbling ability at the moment. Because he can't do anything off the dribble, it basically makes any opportunities to pass the ball non-existent.
-His jumper is still a work in progress. He badly bricked one early in the game and then missed another that hit nothing but the glass.
-He bites on every pump fake looking for a blocked shot. With his athleticism and willingness to challenge shots at the rim, he's going to get his share of highlight reel blocks, but his over aggressiveness leads to a lot of easy up and under moves and fouls.
Basically to sum it all up, he's extremely raw still. He plays within his limitations and doesn't force things which is a good sign (and something Danny Green is doing a poor job of offensively through two games IMO) and his certainly has the potential to be a good defensive player, but he just doesn't know how to play basketball yet.
He needs major work on his ball handling and shooting and just his general basketball skills. This idea that he could come in and play rotation minutes in the NBA next year in insane. He's not even close to being ready for rotation minutes in my opinion. The raw tools are there, but the skills aren't yet.
That said, I would absolutely bring him over now and get him working with NBA coaches and playing in NBA practices against NBA players.
