DALLAS -- TCU has accepted a bid to the Big East Conference, which will take effect July 1, 2012, according to sources familiar with the deal. The school has set a news conference for 1 p.m. CT on campus to make "a major announcement involving the TCU athletics program."

A source confirmed the move to ESPN.com's Joe Schad Monday as well.

Gotta give them props for taking a big step up. Sure the Big East isn't on the SEC/Pac10/Big10 but it is a BCS conference and they'll be playing much better competition week in and week out. Can't wait to see how they do.

When they join a real BCS football conference, let me know.

Also, I didn't know Texas was in the east.

I'm not sure what else you want them to do in the ways of joining another conference? If you want them to join a conference around their location they'd have to join the Big 12, but who wants to join a dying conference? Now you say they aren't joining a good enough conference but who are they going to join? The Pac10 just added 2 schools and seems set. Big 10 just added a school and seems set. So that leaves the SEC (yeah right), ACC, and Big East. I think it makes sense for them to join an automatic bid conference and they'll be playing much stiffer competition on a weekly basis. Like I said, I like the move. Now if/when they run the table again I won't be so against them getting a shot at the national championship. Sure they won't be playing a big 10/pac 10/sec schedule which is MUCH tougher than a big east schedule...but at least its not a mountain west schedule...

Why are people assuming that TCU will just come in to the Big East and roll? The question isn't can TCU beat all of the teams in the Big East. The question is can they do week in and week out. Same goes for Boise, Utah, and whoever else is the plucky go getter of the week. It's not about winning a bowl game. It's about winning the grind. TCU didn't play three teams in consecutive weeks that would even finish middle of the pack in the Big East most years. In any case we're going to find out real soon. The Big East teams beat each other up, no doubt about that. This will be a good test for TCU. We'll see if they can keep it going. I think it's a great move for the Big East

It will be better to have TCU getting an automatic bid for the BCS over UConn, that's for sure.

The Big East might not even have an automatic bid by 2012, since that's when the BCS re-evaluates who gets them.

Because UConn is about to win the Big East this year and can weather the grind? The same UConn team that got beat by 14 plus by Michigan and Temple? If that doesn't scream out quality football team then I don't know what does...lol. One good thing for TCU is they have a year to get a QB ready for the Big East. Plus, they play a pretty good schedule next year with games @Baylor, Texas Tech, Boise State, @Air Force, @SDSU, and they still have a few OOC dates to fill. Plus their recruiting is only going to get better. Just watch the recruiting boost that occurs this offseason and over the next year. I smell TCU dominance in the near future.

I'm sorry but I'm still trying to digest T-e-x-a-s Christian University headed to the Big East:werd:??? Is that like Cleveland being considered the Midwest

Well, to be fair, Texas isn't exactly Mountainy or West either

I'd consider Texas west. El Paso is nearly as far west as Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Actually the Big East is now in no danger of losing its BCS bid. TCU's football "data" will become part of the Big East's football "data" for the next evaluation. The ACC is actually in more trouble of losing their bid more than the Big East, and the ACC isn't going to lose their bid.

The future MWC is pretty much exactly what the WAC is now, and will not get a bowl bid.

As far as TCU comes into play it was a good move. TCU is not much further away than USF is to most of the schools in the conference. And it looks like Villanova is going to move up to the Big East for football.

There was talk of UCF getting an invite. That would have been ideal in my opnion. UCF has a good program and fantastic facilities. It would also help the Big East recruit Florida that much more. However USF was very resistant to offering UCF an invite and therefore it appears Villanova will get that. UCF and Houston are going to be on the Big East's short list should they want to move to a 12 team conference.

I see either you are a graduate or current student at Cincy. My daughter is in her last year at USF. Down here, we're not sure about Villanova. They seem to be dragging their feet to make a decision. The cost might be too much for them. If I can recall, they were offered at one time to move up to football and they refused. As far as UCF, I personally would not want to see them in the Big East, mostly because USF's recruiting would take a huge hit. I don't know if you've been to both campuses, but I have. I loved the UCF campus, not as urban as USF, modern, and a lot of well maintained green space. They have some very nice new facilities, although I have a problem with the trampoline (their football stadium). It's like a frying pan....terrible...in the middle of the State with no breeze, it's stifling. But it is on campus. The Bulls play at Raymond James Stadium and although it is a professional stadium which I personally like better than the trampoline, it is a distance away from the campus. USF for the most part is able to get recruits the Big 3 don't recruit because they are in the Big East, and we are just beginning to take one or two of them away from the Big 3. It has taken a long time to be able to do that. Taking that advantage away from USF would devastate recruiting until our facilities are upgraded, which we are in the process of doing....just not for football. On the other hand, I believe Leavitt was the main force in blocking UCF from receiving an invite. Now that he is gone, it's hard to say that USF might put the kabosh on that invite in the future.

You are correct. If 'Nova joined the Big East (not sure if it is a Big East or a BCS mandate) but they would have to upgrade their stadium to 35k minimum. (I know I know OSU fans, thats a highschool field :chuckles:) and that is a costly upgrade. They do play good division 2 ball and this may be their last chance to get into the Big East for football.

As for the second bolded part. UC and USF have only been in the Big East since 05. And didn't USF become a football program less than 15 years ago? That is not that long if you think about it.

UC's recruiting has consistently gone up since joining the Big East and this year was our recruiting year ever. The cupboard was left dry by Brian Kelly in terms of size and depth (he only recruited skill positions), however it looks like things will be okay eventually. Have faith. USF will be good. I wish UC would have gotten Skip, but I'll give CBJ his chance. I though his scheme would fit in well from what he did at CMU, but it appears he isn't that good of an in game coach..... wonder where we have seen that potato head before?

This change pretty much screws Boise State and the MWC. The three competitive football teams in the MWC (BYU, Utah, TCU) added to Boise, Nevada, and Fresno would have made it a legit conference. BYU is trying to turn into Mormon Notre Dame, Utah went to the PAC 10 and now with TCU leaving will again leave Boise with crap for strength of schedule year after year. I really wish the Pac-10 woulda picked up Boise and Utah, though Colorado is probably a better choice for everything except football's sake.

Being from Florida, I would have liked to see UCF in the Big East. It would have added a natural rival for USF and given the state yet another BCS school.
