TCU to join Big East

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
This change pretty much screws Boise State and the MWC. The three competitive football teams in the MWC (BYU, Utah, TCU) added to Boise, Nevada, and Fresno would have made it a legit conference. BYU is trying to turn into Mormon Notre Dame, Utah went to the PAC 10 and now with TCU leaving will again leave Boise with crap for strength of schedule year after year. I really wish the Pac-10 woulda picked up Boise and Utah, though Colorado is probably a better choice for everything except football's sake.

Being from Florida, I would have liked to see UCF in the Big East. It would have added a natural rival for USF and given the state yet another BCS school.

I've just heard that Nova voted not to join in football. So now it'll most likely be UCF I would guess. Ugh! It was inevitable I guess.

Sources??

Ideally UCF is the best choice at this point based on the state of their football program and facilities/location. UCF gives USF a geographic rival.

With the addition of TCU I think the best move for the Big East would be to add (UCF as said above) along with Houston to give TCU a geographic rival along with ECU. This would put the Big East to 12 football teams and allow a championship game.

As far as the non-football conferences go I say cut DePaul first along with some other bottom feeders from the basketball side.

Perhaps I spoke to soon. It appears from the article that the academic board voted against football. Apparently, it's not a done deal yet.

What I think I would like to ultimately see is a break in the conference with the football schools in their own conference and the basketball schools in their own. The last time the BE expanded, when UC and USF joined, UCF was asked to join as a football only school, which they declined to do, opening the door for USF. I don't know if they will be invited as football only, but if they are, I'm not sure they would accept.
