The 2020 Cleveland Indians

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
@Derek

How would you rate Gose as a pitching prospect if you don't include his age? It's not common to see 97-98 from a left handed pitcher. I think he is a season away but could be a factor since our left handed depth in the organization isn't great to start so I am curious if he could factor in at all for this year?
He’s been too wild for me to think he’ll ever be a positive contributor on the MLB roster.

His numbers last year were rough.

What if he gets his fastball under control with a decent secondary?

That’s like asking “what if Josh Tomlin starts throwing 95 with a wicked slider”

I dont think it would be that much of a stretch. He will never be a starter or anything like that, so asking a guy to get command and a decent off speed pitch will never be that much of a stretch, but I get your point. You feel he will never be a big league pitcher with proper command.

Probably looking at this?

C-Perez, Leon
1B-Santana, Bauers
2B-Hernandez
SS-Lindor
3B-Ramirez
Utility-Arroyo
OF-Mercado, Luplow, Reyes, DeShields Jr., Santana

Maybe Bradey edges Bauers out. Maybe Chang over Arroyo. But otherwise I'd be surprised to see anything dfferent.

He literally walked a guy per inning last year, he's pretty far off

Let's see how he looks this spring overall. I feel he will fix some of the command issues this season. So far he has only been striking out guys. We shall see this spring if he has learned any control.

@Out of the Rafters at the Q

From watching Gose this spring, most of his command issues so far is because of inexperience and trying to throw to hard. His off speed pitch looked good last outing and as Manning said, he doesnt have to add speed to his fastball to strikeout a guy when his off speed is doing well, he just needs to hit his spots with it.

I guess I am higher on Gose than you guys are since it's rare to see a lefty who just naturally throws that hard within an organization who lacks lefty arms.

Thanks to MadThinker88 for leading me to this forum. After perusing it for several days, there are some very fine posters over here.

Interesting comments on Gose, whose bio makes him a long shot to become an effective MLB reliever...but his arm makes the experiment well worth the effort.

I would disagree somewhat that the org is now lacking in lefty possibilities.

The additions of Allen and Moss, along with the rise of Nelson and Scott, give the org some legitimate looking options to go along with Oliver and Hentges...and Gose.

On another note, the Bauer trade filled not one, but two organizational holes. RH power bat and upper level lefty pitchers.

Now, all they have to do is produce.

Welcome Cats. Glad to see more guys migrating over (& THE troll w/ multiple puppet accounts being left behind on the sinking ship)...

I don't think control is something you can teach very often. It's the same mistake that happens in the NFL of believing you can "coach someone up" who has athletic gifts. Sometimes a person just isn't good at the sport, regardless of athletic gifts.

I see Gose as a far worse version of Nick Hagadone. I hope I'm wrong and he turns into a back-end of the bullpen stud. I just don't expect it to happen.

It's been 3 innings of spring training...

I'm equally excited about Mitch Longo

Longo is actually someone under the radar I want to see. He is going to start at AA, but he really has a chance to be this years Ka'ai Tom in a sense.

I know its only 3 innings, but last spring in the same amount of time, Gose had 4 walks to 1 SO. Gose has averaged over a SO per 9 innings as well, so he has been feast or famine, but from what I can tell his issues are fixable and I am not expecting a Maddux type of control but even decent control of his fastball could put him relief worthy in my mind. Reason why I feel he is fixable is the fact he is inexperienced as a pitcher plus so far all of his pitches this spring that went out of control, aka into the dirt or too high, was cause he was trying to hard and lost his mechanics. He lacks muscle memory, but I feel with enough innings under his belt he should be able to learn command. I mean he only has 65 innings as a pitcher overall and with our ability to develop guys, I think he could do it.

Maybe I am being optimistic but I really feel his command will improve the more innings he is in the game.

@CATS44

First off welcome to the board!

I agree with we got way better with depth with lefties in the organization, but I feel Hentges, Moss and Logan will all stay starters. So our depth with relieving left handers is pretty much just Nelson in the minors that has a pro arm.

Now though the 3 batter rule could make actually make them bring up a lefty starter to be a reliever, but the development guys want them to stay a starter in a sense. I am curious if Gose learns control how much he could rise as a prospect.
