The 2020 Cleveland Indians

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I don’t see how any team is going to come even close to a potential price the Indians would set for Lindor, so it’s pretty much a moot point.
The Dodgers make the most sense. 3 top prospects and the money to keep him

He could easily make the move to 3B to make room for Frankie

Okay, but Justin Turner is under contract for next season. And, Gavin Lux is certainly going to be their 2B no later than next season. No, I don’t see Friedman moving Lux and others for two years of Frankie when they could potentially just sign him outright when he hits the market.

Lotta uncertainty with waiting 2 years though. They've been one of the best teams in baseball for a few years now and are yet to get over the hump. Ryu is the only notable player they may lose this offseason- Rich Hill too, although they've been fine without him. Why not strike now when the iron is hot? Especially if they come up short again this year.

Sounds like you’re trying to convince yourselves more than anything.

They ain’t dealing Lux, he’s “their future captain”

Well now we have to figure how Naquin's injury will effect the starting lineup being the season. Naquin really at the moment I felt was the only true lock in the OF, but with an ACL tear, sometimes it can be a full year before a guy can come back. I expect him back before that, but at the start of the season, he still may not be ready. I don't expect them to spend any money in free agency for the OF, but the other guys like Johnson could end up winning a short term spot out of camp.

Some potential 2020 targets:

2B Scooter Gennett, Free Agent
-Missed most of the year to injury and has been miserable since returning. Really productive in '17 and '18 with the Reds. Could make sense on a 1 year deal to regain his value and be a stopgap for Jones/Freeman

OF Brandon Nimmo-Mets, Trade
-Nimmo too missed much of the season and was disappointing when he was on the field. Was just recalled to the Mets for September. 4.5 fWAR player in 2018 and has an elite walk rate. Not really sure if the Mets are keen on trading him, but they do have a crowded major league roster. 3 years of control, Arb Eligible for the first time this season

3B Travis Shaw-Brewers, Trade
-Terrible 2019, doesn't really have a spot with the Brewers if Moustkas returns next season. Worth 7.1 combined in '17 and '18 with the Brewers. Could probably acquire him for cheap. 2 years of control, will probably make $5m next year

OF Clint Frazier & 3B Miguel Andujar- Yankees, Trade
-With all the injuries this season, Frazier still hasn't been able to get many opportunities. Seems like a change of scenery is in order. 4 years of control, Arb Eligible in 2021
-Indians probably wouldn't be too interested with DH locked down and one of Freeman/Jones likely being in play for 2021. But Andujar seems expendable with their strong IF depth and the amount of money they're paying Stanton. 4 years of control, Arb Eligible in 2021

OF Brian Anderson, Marlins, Trade
-Wouldn't come cheap and who knows how available he'd even be, but it's the Marlins. Would fit in nicely as an everyday OF on an Indians OF riddled with inconsistency. 4 years of control, Arb Eligible in 2021

As far as any of these happening, doubt the Indians cough up the pieces for any of these 4 year guys. They could probably get Shaw if they wanted him, but his salary would likely be a deterrent, especially after his 2019. Scooter would fit their brand, but I imagine they'd have competition. Nimmo feels like potentially the most realistic, there's a lot to like there- just don't know if he'll be available. Cano, Lowrie, McNeil, JD Davis, Cespedes, Nimmo, Dom Smith, and Conforto all in play for the 3 OF spots + 2B + 3B.

I'd think we slot Zimmer in Center
Mercado in Right
Allen/Luplow continue their platoon in Left

I think Bauers will start the first few months in AAA. Needs to hone his eye at the plate. Far too many swing and miss strikeouts hoping to hit a HR.

I would actually argue that one of Bauers’s biggest issues this year was that he wasn’t turning on the ball enough or trying to hit for power.

Wasn't impressed with what I saw from here in Columbus while he was here. Still young though, so we'll find out more over the offseason. Is his contract guaranteed?

Bauers isn't eligible for UFA until 2025, same as Franmil Reyes.

We can have him for over half a decade if we want.
