So been thinking about this pick, maybe over thinking. Dad is surgeon, wants to go into medicine after football. So money was not an issue for him leaving early, and comes from a smart family high grades himself.
So if you were in a bad situation as a receiver with bad QB play, would you transfer? Sit out a year? See 2 years of your prime wasted? Or would you go pro early, and if you have to "sit out", have it be practicing with pro's, learning your craft better, but no matter who your qb is, it will be better than a Michigan qb, heck every backup in the league is better than a Michigan qb right now. (yes i know Brady went to Mich, but its not 1999.
I think he went pro early to salvage his career even though he knew he would be drafted late. He doesnt need a paycheck to take care of his parents, siblings, cousins, etc like allot of the players coming out of poverty, but he does need to get into a system that will help him develop.
I not only think he was lucky to be picked by the Browns, but he could actually flourish as a Brown.
I know the story of Raheem Mostert well, i am a Purdue alumni. He switched positions then was a RB in a pass happy offense. Opposite, but similar to DPJ. Mostert went undrafted, fought to get on practice squads, then fought to get on rosters. He might not be a top 15 RB in the league, but he did get to start in the Super Bowl, not bad for an UDFA.
My point is that i think DPJ made a smart decision to escape a bad offense that didnt show his skills. We fought the battle of Toledo to free the less fortunate of Michigan so they can escape to the southern shores of Erie. DPJ isnt a Michigan alumni, he is a refugee. He barely got out of the land of Wolverines to the great Southern shores of Erie, he is one of us now, lets welcome him and help him Flourish in this great land of Cleve.
Ok, the last part is a bit a joke, but the body is true.
