And all contracts in full are taken in, correct? Guy has 4 years left, then you get him for all 4? But if a guy is at 1, then you can't extend him?
Correct. Once the game kicks off on Thursday night, contracts are officially locked in and cannot be changed or extended.
You don't have to keep players for the full duration of their contracts, of course. If you sign a guy to a two year deal and he suffers a season-ending injury during camp next year, you can cut him and just eat 1/3 of his contract instead of paying full price for a guy you won't be playing.
And again, all contract values include this year. A one year deal is an expiring contract that will come off your books next year. A two year deal ends after the 2022 season. And so forth.
