And all contracts in full are taken in, correct? Guy has 4 years left, then you get him for all 4? But if a guy is at 1, then you can't extend him?

Correct. Once the game kicks off on Thursday night, contracts are officially locked in and cannot be changed or extended.

You don't have to keep players for the full duration of their contracts, of course. If you sign a guy to a two year deal and he suffers a season-ending injury during camp next year, you can cut him and just eat 1/3 of his contract instead of paying full price for a guy you won't be playing.

And again, all contract values include this year. A one year deal is an expiring contract that will come off your books next year. A two year deal ends after the 2022 season. And so forth.

The good thing about a league like this is that, if you are smart with your contracts, you can walk into next year's draft with some decent money to play with, and a whole lot of the guys we drafted last night will get cut.

That is my exact thought process right now. If I give Gibson a 1 year deal, I’m guaranteed $42 million in caps space next year even if I make no others moves this year and keep 19 out of my 20 players.

If you cut them after kickoff on Thursday, you'd be on the hook for $9 each year through the 2024 season.
