Yeah, if you cut a guy on a $1 deal with three years remaining, you lose a dollar in each of those drafts until his contract is off the books.

And yes, that is correct. Just divide the contract by three and then round up or down to the nearest whole number to determine the cut penalty.

That would take a lot of the strategy out of managing deals imo. Every deal you give that's longer than one year needs to matter, even if it's just a small amount.

Eh, I was hoping that's a benefit of a $1 deal--the players nobody cared to bid for are cheap, like how vet min contracts don't always count the same as normal contracts for other salary cap purposes.

Now they go from being one of the best risks, to being the absolute worst, costing you a full 100% of the contract if you cut the player.

So say you cut 6 4-year $1 contracts -- you would lose at least $6 for the next 3 waiver budgets (adding additional $1 contracts cut in ensuing years).

I realize it's probably way to late to change anything and get a consensus, just spitballin.

I think you should be able to consolidate it down.

Basically, if you want to cut a player with 3 years at $1, that's 1/3 of a dollar each year... but since we can't do fractions, having the option for it to be paid off over one year at the full $1 would seem like a nice middle ground.

But, whatever @Jack Brickman wants to decide works for me.
