It’s time to hold this man accountable for his descretions.

He has been MISERABLY bad all year, and it’s time for him to put up or shut up. He has to be better at calling the game. He has to be better at adjusting during the game. He has to be better at formulating a game plan based on opponent.

He has done none of that.

Carolina goes into Seattle and wins with Darnold. Outside of the Titans games, not Pittsburgh because he was at home we never won games we aren't supposed to win.

Noted Stefanski defender here.

That 4th and 1 call was just terrible process. Bringing in your backup QB to throw a deep pass when you could easily have run that same play with Watson. Just insane.

Otherwise, I like the design of the offense for the most part. It'll look a lot better when DJ Reader isn't dominating the inside of our O-Line.

I'll defend the process.

I said in the game thread that shot is the last we'd see of Brissett--that the book was closed. The entire point of playing him last week after Watson came back was to create that opportunity. And it looks like that's correct.

We purposefully set this play up. We brought in Jacoby for the sneak last week. We gameplanned this--the first 4th and 1, everyone on the team knew what was coming. We were going to bring out Brissett. The Bengals would know we were sneaking, and we'd catch them with their pants down, giving us a shot to hit a touchdown.

It worked. We had an open receiver for six. Jacoby just missed him.

If we can continue to scheme things across weeks--take advantage of coaches who do film study on us--it will pay more dividends than it will cost. It's what the great offensive teams do. It's what Reid and McVay do.

I have more of a problem with the 3rd and 1 call. That was clearly a play where we put the handoff to Hunt on tape so teams see it, and we do something different out of that formation next time. My problem is, this game against Cincinnati? If we lose, our season's over. You can't lose a drive at that point in the game by looking towards the future.

Option A: Kick the field goal. York is 5/6 from 40-49 on the year, so we'll ignore the two shorter ones he's missed and give him those best numbers. 83% he converts. Expected points: 2.5

Option B: Try to pick up one yard and turn the drive from a field goal into a touchdown. We're 55.56% on fourth down conversions this year, but I know that fourth and one is supposed to be about a 72% conversion rate. Then the Browns series conversion rate is 72% which gets us to the red zone--where our TD rate is 58.54%. 0.72x0.72x0.5854x7= 2.12 expected points. (and yeah, I made the extra point 100% just to keep that number high)

Option C: You set everything up so that if you bring Jacoby in on 4th and 1, the opposing team knows you're sneaking... so you'll get a deep shot. This happened. We had DPJ open. If you think Jacoby hits an open receiver more than 35% of the time, then your expected points from this option is the highest and this should be what you choose.

When it's spelled out like that, I think it's clear why we did what we did.

I don't disagree with the play call or the shot.

I think putting Brissett in to run a play that Watson could easily have run was poor thought process and a step too far into the "over thinking" realm. The threat of a sneak is gone as soon as he takes a single step back in his drop. After that, the added benefit from Brissett is gone and now you just have your backup QB taking a shot on 4th down.

I just think it's way too cute on a play that Watson probably would have run better for only a mild benefit in misdirection.

If Watson is in, I think you're going to the line to analyze what the defense is doing.

If they sell out for the sneak and give you one-on-one on the outside... eh... I'm still not sure DPJ can beat a guy. It's probably a jump ball. I think the field goal is the preferred call.

I just think we saw exactly what we drew up. We fooled the defense and got DPJ open behind the defense in a way that wouldn't have happened if Watson was in there.

Heck, after the missed throws in Houston, I'm not sure I trusted Watson to make that throw more than Jacoby to begin with.

It's a bad call because brissett is a back up, coming in cold, deep balls aren't his game and in the same situation he probably only makes that throw 2 out of 10 times. Brissett should never ever see the field when we have to get Watson ready for next year.

Honestly probably Kevin’s worse decision as a head coach. To top it it off it’s being reported that some the players supposed to be in were on the sidelines for that play. That’s a really bad moment. If you have no confidence you can get the yard without tricking cincy just try to take the 3 point lead.

Those points come in super handy later . They could have cut the lead to 7 vs 10 in the fourth with over 6 minutes left. Does the défense step up at point? Probably not but that at least you would have been in the game.
