As a former technician who worked on PC and MAC technology, I can tell you that MACs were terrible to work on. Since MAC went with aesthetics over engineering, starting with the iMAC, you were pretty much toast if any piece of your system failed. The monitors/CRTs were the worst; if you didn't discharge the CRT properly when replacing it (and, yes, you actually had to replace it, as opposed to buying a new monitor), you could take an electric charge powerful enough to knock you the F out. Plus, any parts that needed replaced had to be replaced using MAC parts, which were twice as much as the PC counterparts. The failure rate of the MACs we saw in the field was fairly alarming to our department. We had 5 techs, and 4 engineers. 3 of the techs were dedicated to just MACs, even though we had 10 times as many PCs in the field. This may seem weird, but part of this was due to the fact that some of the procedures for trying to replace parts were absurd. It took 3 times longer to open up a MAC case and replace an item as it did to remove the cover off a PC and replace a card or drive.
Now don't get me wrong, MACs are hands down better in a graphic design capacity, as well as, simplicity and ease of use. They definitely have their place. And most MAC users cannot stand Windows, claiming things like stolen design (which is true).
