Attendance isn't the end-all be-all, it only tells a portion of the story.
I prefer to watch the Browns on TV at home or at a bar. The experience is better for me. I get commentary, replays, have the freedom to move around and get comfortable, don't have to pay an arm and a leg for food/drinks. I actually go and tailgate most home games and then hang out with friends at home or at a bar for the actual game.
I'm cool with anyone who does the same, so attendance numbers alone definitely don't tell the whole story.
My comment on Cincinnati fans was a combination of things. They couldn't get butts in the seats and were constantly blacked out on TV, yes. But more disappointing than that was the apathy and disregard for the team when I was living in the area. They weren't contenders but they made the playoffs most of the years I was down there. But I couldn't have an intelligent football conversation with very many of them about their team/the division. They could talk Reds all day but Bengals? They were pretty detached.
I get some people in here saying 'who cares about fair weather fanhood'. It doesn't keep me up at night by any means. But as a man who posts on a Cleveland sports forum every day, I obviously like talking sports. I was living in a city with too many disengaged fans for my liking. So I grew not to respect that fanbase.
I dunno, seems rational to me.
