Can you please explain what the FV and numbers in parenthesis means? Thank you.

Sorry, the explanation was prefaced in last year's list, but I realized the link didn't work. I edited it now.

FV just means Future Value and it's based on Fangraphs FV system. In brackets are the best case development ceiling FV. I thought it's helpful, but you can also just neglect it.

Like last year, I'll highlight some other groups tomorrow. Especially the DSL one is worth following

FWIW... for these four = a bump up one level (walters' two) to the FV 45 range.. otherwise.. pretty fair..

Sorry, I'm certainly a Rocchio fan, but he is not our #1 prospect IMO. The top 2 have to be Manzardo and DeLauter and not necessarily in that order.
I think most agree with you there but Tondo kind of needs Rocchio at number one on his board to start training camp in full scorched earth may de on his Arias - Rocchio debates

There are razor thin differences between 1-5 of this list.. Given a stretch of good health.. and the razor margin might stretch down to 1-9

In a system where DeLauter is poised to seize the #1 prospect rating, hopefully soon and for a very short period of time... I agree, there are a minimum of 3 and closer to 5 guys you could call our #1 prospect right now. Hopefully that's a good thing and a sign of strength... And not a sign of as good as it gets.

Rocchio is a top 50 overall (and 2nd) at both FG and mlbpipeline and at the top of Law's Athletic’s ranking, so maybe reassess what is consensus and contrarian opinion here.

Manzardo and DeLauter are most probably better hitters, absolutely, but that isn't all that matters here.

Manzardo/Rocchio was a coin flip and DeLauter was close to that group but I want to see him do it against real upper minors pitching first even though by a indicators he should crush it.

Most rankings within a tier can be rearranged anyway, especially deeper down the system.

Other groups of prospects worth following:

Teenage(ish) Helium

LHP J. Bresnahan
RHP E. Hernandez (20yo)
RHP A. Aldeano
RHP Y. Gomez (20yo)
RHP J. Santos (20yo)
CF L. Durango (20yo)
OF J. Gomez
OF C. Espinola (20yo)
INF A. Mendez
INF J. Mercedes

Last year's version of this group yielded Humphries, Antunez and R. Lopez who emerged as legit prospects.
It's a pipeline the FO continues to refill via draft/IFA with more young talents worth following, while others remained in this group for now, but could emerge next. Bresnahan could be the new Humphries as an over slot recent LHP draftee out of HS.
Durango missed a year+ to injury, but he's still age/level appropriate to breakout and has the contact/speed/defense tools to flourish. Some IFA bats continued to perform in rookie ball and should take the next full season step, so there could be another diamond somewhere (A. Mendez looks best).

AAAA ok

1B M. Pries
INF D. Schneemann
INF R. Delgado
OF K. Holland
RHP T. Benton
RHP N. Enright
RHP B. Hanner
LHP E. Sabrowski
RHP T. Brown
RHP C. Gillispie
LHP J. Doxakis

This is your annual upper minors depth bucket. One or two could always end up surprising as role players like D. Fry and C. Smith last season. Holland had a decent AA season at age 23 as a RH OF, but he enters his final year of control. He could emerge and take over Roller's role or be cut in ST. Enright and Benton have the best arm talent and upside. Plus a slew of recent minors R5 selections. Any of them could make it as middle reliever.

Post Hype Periphery

RHP J. Wolf
RHP L. Torres
SS Y. Valdes
INF C. Tucker
1B J. Sanquintin
INF J. Pastrano
INF F. Alduey
3B G. Rodriguez
OF I. Greene
1B J. Naranjo

Well, the group name says it all. All of these prospects (except Naranjo) got 1+M to sign. They're all young enough to get back on the map, but also one more dud season of getting washed out of the system entirely. Bracho broke back out of this group. Gabriel Rodriguez did too, but fell right back into it after a dud AA season. Last chance (if at all) for most of them.

Others of interest

RHP D. Delucia
RHP Z. Jacobs
RHP R. Johnston
RHP A. Peterson
RHP A. Richardson
RHP Y. Gomez
RHP A. Davenport
LHP S. Rapp
LHP A. Tulloch
OF P. Cavenaugh
OF J. Boyd
OF A. Zarate
INF T. Tucker

These guys are all still varying degrees of interesting and most of them are recent mid/late round draftees who didn't have eye popping stats, but most did quite well/ok or never got going due to injury (Boyd/Delucia). Most of them have the talent to bump into the lower FV tiers with good seasons. Jacobs had a strong 2nd half and good overall numbers, one of the best SP in all of low A level. Cavenaugh has the body and tools to develop into a good CF prospect, he flashed those in college too. Those two would be my breakout candidates next to Delucia/Boyd.

Recent Draft Depth

CF J. Advincula
RHP J. Driver
RHP M. Wilkinson
RHP K. Zinn
RHP K. Scott
RHP M. Jachec
RHP Z. Morehouse
RHP J. Harlow
LHP J. Berry (UDFA)
C J. Tincher
OF B. Riebock

Usually there are some of those that develop into decent prospects, most recently guys like Aleman, Sharpe. I like that they've drafted more JuCo player recently. Ellerts already looks like a solid pen prospect. They selected 3 more JuCo performers in Wilkinson, Scott and Riebock. Some upside there.

JuCo SP's with big arms and marginal control of four/five pitch mix = the latest, new, untapped resource. [making them RP's as soon as they start drifting toward PHP...

Still a big Rocchio fan.

He played a decent chunk of games at 3B here which he clearly wasn’t very comfortable with. Still hit something like .250.

Excellent AAA numbers.

I just think he made some costly errors and wasn’t overly impactful so people think he sucked but he’s still a really high level prospect.

DSL Diamonds

OF J. Pirela
3B/1B L. Merejo
INF Y. Mijares
INF J. Martinez
INF N. Velasquez
1B/3B Y. Baptiste
C P. Arosemena
C P. Delmagro
C S. Cadiz
OF M. Bolivar
OF H. Silva
OF L. Aparicio
LHP M. Hernandez
LHP A. Mejia
RHP H. Ruiz
RHP J. Alfaro

The 2023 IFA class had a terrific start. Top signings W. Francisca (1.38M) and Y. Luis (850K) backed up their pedigree with strong DSL debuts with both appearing among the best in several statistical categories. But they weren't alone. Quite a few of the mid and lower signing bonus players had very promising showings too.

Pirela (320K) and Merejo (340K) are two bigger framed hitters that performed to top DSL standards. Both displaying a good mix of hit and power tool potential. Both have fly ball heavy profiles with pull consciousness (both 50% + pull). Add muscle to those frames and keep swinging that way, they'll go far.
J. Martinez (300K) and M. Bolivar (60K) were among the youngest players in DSL (only 25 were 16yo) and both still performed above average with even more promising peripherals.
Silva (250K) and Aparicio join Bolivar as high contact OF with strong BB/K and little swing and miss. Aparicio had the lowest K% among 718 DSL hitters with 50+ PA at 4.3% (5K in 117 PA) and 6th best SwStr%. Elite.
Mijares (275K) is a switch hitting MIF that did a bit of everything statistically. Another standout.
The 3 Catchers have all shown flashes of power or future power. Worth tracking, especially if the defense develops.
Baptiste (pure power with lots of swing and miss) and Velasquez were 2022 IFA leftovers who've earned their ticket to the Complex League next season.
Algenis Mejia is a 6'4 LHP who had the 8th best K% in DSL among 18yo (407 pitchers), but he's wild.
Alfaro and especially Ruiz were among the best teenage SP in DSL last year. They will most probably join 18yo LHP Melkis Hernandez (solid above average season across the board) making their way over to Arizona this spring. Deep group coming stateside.
