Tracking the 2013 Draft Picks

The 3rd seed going into the lottery means a 99.6% shot at a top-5 pick (miniscule chance at #6).

Douglar, I think a Lakers win would mean 18, 19, or 20 (HOU, LAL, CHI). Or would LAL automatically be seeded higher than HOU in that case? But let's hope for 17 or 18.

It's actually a 96% chance at a top-5 pick. But same principle applies.

Coin flip determines who gets #18, #19, or #20.

Cavs don't get the #16 pick without a little drama. I'll take the drama. Especially if it means the laker fans have to learn how to suffer.

As good as the Lakers are looking, and as mediocre as the Jazz are looking, I'd honestly rather Utah beat us Wednesday night. I'm pretty confident that the Lakers will make the playoffs now, so I'd rather us improve our own draft pick with a loss against the Jazz.

Even with the possibility that the Lakers might miss the playoffs, I think everyone would agree that this is the scenario we were all dreaming about when we got the option to trade picks. Imagine if the "experts" had been right and the Lakers were fighting for the number 1 seed right now? Would gladly take the chance on missing out on the pick all together than the alternative of having to talk about whether we will swap the 30th pick for the 29th. We were never going to see the 15th or 16th pick without the Lakers having a chance to miss the playoffs. Incredible that we are even looking at the possibility of getting that high of a pick from them.

Rich: can I panic yet?

Yes.

This Lakers team is trash and is not making the playoffs. I'm done rooting for them, much more fun to laugh at their dysfunction.

Hope you greedy bastards who wanted the lakers to start losing are happy.

our pick is doomed

Silly me for ever thinking we had a shot at that Lakers pick. Its over.

Every single post chrisrich91 and Birdy89 made. :chuckles:

Cheers to all for a really entertaining thread, except for the part about the Cavs playing really badly. I hope we can do this next year when the Kings have a big growth spurt and try to give us their pick.

I still don't think we're getting that Lakers pick...Cleveland curse at it's finest.

The fun thing about these Chris Grant future first round trade with various protections is that we get new and exciting teams to root for and against even once we're good and out of the lottery mindset.

Starting next year through 2017, we start rooting for the Kings to get good, but not too good so that we get a pick in the 10-16 range(12-16 next year) from the them.

Starting in 2015, we get to add the Grizz to the mix. Hope for Hollinger-ball to fail them. We could hope to get a pick from them in the 6-14 range in 2015 or 2016 . In 2016 to 2017, while we're hopefully battling it out to go to the finals, we can hope for them to suck(but not too badly) and get a pick in the 6-10 range. Or we could get really greedy(but this is just way to far off for me) and hope we never get that pick prior to 2019 when it become free of all protection and pray that Memphis is horrible that year. Bottom line is we got a guaranteed future first round pick for Jon Leuer.

The real fun though is the HeatWatch2015. If any of the Big 3 bolt Miami, we'll all be clamoring for the Heat to be mediocre so we get a pick in the 11-18 range.

The odds are super low, but 2015 could be an epic year in which we are a top 4 seed in the East and at the end of the year, still receive 4 first round draft picks. Our own, Miami's, a pick in the 10-16 range from Sacramento(West is too strong for them too climb much higher than a 7-8 seed by then), and a pick from Memphis in the 6-14 range.

Finally, I get to root against the Lakers again for a couple of quarters...

Are you guys sure it's 17/18 with a lakers loss? Unless something is going way over my head, I think it's 16/17 with a Lakers loss.

There are 14 lotto teams.

Milwaukee has the worst record of any playoff team.

If the Lakers lose, they will tie with Atlanta. Thus, they'd be tied for the 16th worst record.

I've checked w/l records to confirm this. Am I just missing a team?

Boston will get the 16th pick

Meanwhile, over on a Suns forum...

"In all seriousness, while I would love another lotto pick, I think there will be good players still on the board at 30."

I sense the beginnings of cognitive dissonance.

Of course the Lakers will win after we finally are able to root for them to lose. Typical Cleveland luck.

Edit: spoke too soon! Thanks Rockets :king:
