Upcoming Roster Moves

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
And before anyone thinks that Oscar G is going to have a chance to be called up ... the DeSantos recall yesterday pretty much made it much harder for it to happen.

Right now, we have 12 position players. With Chang coming off COVID (sometime this week per announcers and by next Wed at the latest for 20 days from April 29), we will be at 41 players (this assumes the only way Santos could come right back up pre-10 day minor league stint was to be called up as a full 40-man roster player vs COVID recall).

Thus, now either Castro, Santos, McCarty, Oviedo or Chang need to be cut to get back to 40 man. With them actually using Santos (since April 20th other than Sunday) and Castro (for 2 prior DH recalls) -- I assume it is Oviedo cut over McCarty (who will also be optioned down for Chang to come back on 26 man). McCarty will be that someone expendable to come up when bullpen is taxed.

By the time Morris and Vargas come back off 60-day dl, we can then try to send McCarty back off 40 man (as we will have Morris to make spot appearances as well) and Palacios maybe ready then come back up over Chang (after he gets another month experience playing the OF). Thus, ending the Oscar prayer to be called up.

I just thought if McCarty replaced Santos on the 40 man for Chang's Covid call-up that they could have then be both off the 40 man without being designated for assignment when Chang comes back later this week .... to keep some 40 man flexibility. Yet, that isn't how they (could have) played it.
If the team wants to look at OG this season, and they should, there is no problem whatsoever in finding a 40 man roster spot for him.

Uh, we lose a lot of defense.

I'm looking to win right now. This team in this division can win it...if it stays reasonably healthy.

This org has the resources to go out and acquire a significant bat ..without subtracting from the present team and without trading away prospects that leave the org short at any position.

Apparently for everybody else, winning is far from a priority.
Again, a terrible misrepresentation of what we are saying. Besides the lack of consistent offense has been a much bigger issue than the lack of defense in RF which has had the likes of Kwan, Reyes and Naylor.

I plainly stated a couple of pages back that I’m all for acquiring a bat, but in the mean time there is nothing wrong with giving OGon a look. There is no rational argument against it at the moment IMO.

The corner outfield going forward looks to be Kwan, Amed, and Mercado. Naylor is now the 1B. He and Reyes, except in extreme circumstances, are not part of the equation.

All three are better than O Gonzalez.

Defense counts.

And so does the fact that the present offense is among the elite in MLB.

I'll take Oscar Gonzales in left field over Amed. The team needs to move him. You keep hammering a guy who hit 31 homers, knocked in 83 and had a batting average in the 290's splitting time in Akron and Columbus last year. Not to mention his hot spring training this year and his hot start with the Clippers. And then throw in the fact that Amed is a pathetic defensive player and it makes a ton of sense to bring Oscar up to see what he can do.

You don’t know if they’re better, worse or exactly the same. In fact, Amed can’t get on base for shit and kills you’re argument against OGon. Having Amed in a corner OF is a sign of how bad/desperate the situation is.

I’d go east on the “elite offense” labeling. They get a corner OF bat and a C that can hit a little and they probably are in the top 10 offenses.

Offense counts too, and we’ve trotted Kwan, Reyes and Naylor out in RF so defense must not be an overall issue. Amed in LF isn’t a defensive plus either. You need a better argument.

Maybe I miss it is Bobby Bradley no longer with the organization, did he refuse assignment ?

Where you see that? Baseball Reference says he is on the suspended list?!?!!

Anyone know?

The main instance where it is used is when a player is suspended by the league as the result of an on-field incident, but it can also be initiated by the player's own club in the case of insubordination, unacceptable behavior (such as a player getting into an altercation with his manager, a teammate, or a fan), or a violation of team rules related to chronic tardiness, possession of alcohol or reporting to work intoxicated, missing a doctor's appointment, or failure to get into playing condition within 60 days after start of MLB Spring Training or Minor League Spring Training. (The Suspended List is used more liberally in the minor leagues, mainly because minor league players don't have the protection of a union).

NOTE: When an MLB player is placed on the Suspended List, a grievance is usually filed by the Major League Baseball Players Association (MLBPA) on behalf of the suspended player because the player does not get paid while on the list.

Edit. Looks like he may have been reinstated.

My post was a question, didn’t know he got suspended ………
Bobby was outrighted to AAA Columbus after clearing waivers during the past week.
Since he had not been outrighted before, he could not refuse the assignment. He still has a window of time to report to the team he was sent to (IIRC it is a week).

In the future, if added to a 40 man roster & then outrighted off the 40 man, Bobby can refuse the assignment & become a free agent, regardless of how much service time he has or not..

@MadThinker88 's post is correct about when a player get DFA'd then outrighted.

I am not sure why it said anything about Bradley being suspended since I couldn't see anything anywhere... My only guess would be he filed a grievance against the FO cause of his playing time/treatment otherwise it was likely just the wrong update?

Hopefully Bradley puts his pride aside and uses the rest of the season to rework his swing and his issues at the plate so he can try and get back to the bigs next season.

I don't see him or Johnson in Cleveland next season so hopefully they both work on issues and find an organization that needs them.

I'm not the biggest OGon fan but I agree that if you're going to play Amed in the corner now at this point you're better off just trading him and calling up someone like Palacios, OGon, or Call if they're just going to be a part time player. I prefer Palacios because he makes more logical sense to pair with Mercado.

Before the season I didn't agree with this. I felt like Amed was needed as a bridge to the future. But a few things have changed. Gimenez has well exceeded expectations. Miller and Kwan look like full time players. We have enough MLB-ready depth at both corner OF and MIF. Not to mention we have a few guys knocking at the door still in MIF.

Honestly, I don't know if I'm an OGon fan or not, but I'm a fan of finding out.
