Week #10 - Browns @ New England

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I wouldn’t go as far as saying I feel confident enough about the Browns to win that I’d put money on it, but the Pats are 1-4 at home and their only impressive win was against the Chargers. Lost to the Dolphins, barely beat the Texans. Their resume isn’t anything special. And their offense is pretty garbage. Harris and Stevenson may not play. If the defense gives up more than 20 points than Joe Woods should be fired on the spot.

Jesus, you have cherry picked what you want to see about the Patriots pretty badly. They are fifth in the NFL in points surrendered, ninth in yards against. It's a good defense.

After a 1-3 start, the streaking Patriots are poised to overtake the division lead, trailing the Bills by a half game. Like many teams who start a rookie QB, they are getting better every week.

I hate the Patriots as much as the next guy, but see them for what they are.

Four of their wins are against god awful teams.

When we look at the Browns rankings for D, we’re including the Bears game- a huge outlier. He Patriots sport wins over the Panthers, Texans, and the Jets twice, and the Chargers.

Color me unimpressed with the resume, despite being close elsewhere. Eliminate turnovers, and their offense isn’t remotely terrifying.

I never said their defense wasn't good, but whenever they've played a team with a pulse they've given up 28 (Saints), 19 (Bucs), 35 (Cowboys), and 24 (Chargers) points. And that game against the Bucs was in the shittiest of weather conditions and the Bucs drove the ball all game long... just had to settle for FGs. The David Mills led Texans scored over 20 on them and the Pats had to come back from two scores down to win. I guess I'm supposed to be impressed they shut down Sam Darnold?

I don't disagree about them getting better but I'm not shaking in my boots over Mac Jones, Kendrick Bourne, Nelson Agholor, and Jacobi Meyers. Our corners SHOULD shut those guys down, and our DEs SHOULD be able to get Mac Jones shook. They have two solid TEs, but the Browns have been better with guarding TEs so far this year.

I believe the Browns can score over 20 on that defense, and like I said their offense is pretty trash, so if Woods has a decent gameplan and they play at the level they did last week this is a game the Browns should win. Not just should, they NEED to win. They've already lost too many games to wild card competing teams this year. Beating the Pats and Raiders are almost necessities.

Mac Jones is a limited passer but manages to do well in that west coast style. I think we need to play aggressive on defense for this one. Unless it's 3rd and long, too much soft zone will make him look better than he is. I'd like to mix in some blitzes but not get too crazy with it.

He's a statue in the pocket too. I think our d-line will feast.

This game can turn into last year's NY Jets game real quick. Belichick already knows how to take away one thing you do well, no Chubb and Hunt is the icing on his cake.

Really hope Chubb turns up negative come Saturday.

Those offenses listed - Saints, Bucs, Cowboys and Chargers - are really good. Chargers destroyed the Browns. I'm not claiming the Browns will be shut down, but dismissing a good defense is a mistake especially with all the injuries to the Browns offense.

I wouldn't bet against the Browns, but I'd definitely bet the under. It's going to be a defensive showdown. I agree they need to win, but Vegas definitely isn't saying they should win.

Worth noting... neither Harris or Stevenson practiced for the Pats yesterday due to concussion protocol. Too early to tell but there's a chance their RB situation is just as fucked as ours come Sunday.

Also, love seeing Burns call out Mac Jones for his WWE ankle lock maneuver and said "happy hunting" to all my fellow DE's out there. Hope our guys are listening. Count me in as someone who would gladly take an early game 15 yard penalty to see Myles or Clowney stuff this little bitch into a pine box.

I've posted the video of Mac doing that saying, "id love one of our linemen to take his head off," but now I feel differently. Not being I don't want Mac to be touched up, but because I think there's gonna be *a lot* of emphasis on protecting him by the NFL. We saw Sheldon Day get a roughing call last week. With Burns basically levying a bounty (I agree with him, just don't do it publicly), I wouldn't be surprised if a physical response got repeated penalties or getting kicked out of a game.

Myles and the rest of the defensive line should watch their ankles...

Can someone explain to me why this wasn’t flagged? You can’t hit a QB below the waist, but a QB can hold your leg back like a 3 year old and that’s okay?

Even if he was trying to keep him from getting the ball as Jones claimed, how is that not an illegal block?

"Protect the QBs" has been a point of emphasis for the refs for a few years now. It goes back to 2017 when a bunch of star QBs were missing games because of concussion protocols and general injuries. The ratings and overall offensive production took a huge hit.

I do think it has gone too far, and Mac Jones feeling like he can do whatever he wants is another example of protections going too far. In Cleveland, we already felt the pendulum swing when Myles Garrett was shut down for the season when Mason Rudolph instigated a fight.

It started because of Joe “Turkey” Jones. Then they added the “In the Grasp” rule. We lost a game in NOLA once when Bernie completed a pass from the end zone BUT a pass rusher had a hand wrapped around his ankle and they called a penalty - safety. That broke a tie and that ended scoring for the day. Still pissed about that.

As Jack Lambert said: ”Put skirts on them”. I’m sure Bradshaw didn’t like that comment, but Lambert wasn’t too fond of Bradshaw anyway.

So Chubb and/or Felton need a negative test by today to be able to play on Sunday, if I understand correctly.
