Goodbye Larry Nance Jr.

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Al
Next season, would love for Nance to take the starting SF spot regardless of who the cavs draft. Nance/Love/Drummond frontcourt will punish teams with rebounding and length and the cavs can play sexton and garland more. I feel he would be more productive than osman who should be relegated to the bench.
Also think osman off the bench would be much more productive

Nance looks weirdly viable as a perimeter player. Dare I say he looks more comfortable there than around the basket.

He has the quickness and length to defend. he continues to demonstrate pretty good passing ability. Which he always has. He flashed some adequate dribbling skills which surprised me yesterday, though he was stripped a couple times so he needs to know his limits. His shooting ability will dictate how this works but I’m glad he’s shooting without hesitation.

basically convince Sexton to give Larry a few hours in his hyperbolic time chamber to fix his shooting and we have LeBron 2.0 guys

HE is just more physical than most 3's and his wingspan really comes into play. He can guard wings no problem. It was shooting and ballhandling and probably the way his body looks that made him a 4. He has improved the shooting and ballhandling. When they have to play the Lakers, who would you rather guard Lebron, Cedi or Nance?

Larry has played 26 minutes per game since joining the Cavs. He averages 23.5 mpg in his career. He's played in 315 games, and started 96. He's started 40 games and played in 123 total since joining the Cavs. Why am I talking about this?

Well, TT just signed with the Celtics. Meaning there's minutes to go around. He would appear to be the prime candidate to receive additional mins.

There's 96 PF/C mins to fill each game.

Drummond - 33 (averaged 33 for years prior to joining Cavs)
Love - 31 (averaged 31 in Cleveland thus far)
= 32 PF/C mins left over.

We've also heard the team wants to get Larry some burn at the 3. We've heard a lot about LNJ improving his perimeter skillset since joining the Cavs. Currently some combination of Windler, Osman, Okoro will get the bulk of those SF mins, barring more transactions. Windler is a wild card and probably more of a guard, Osman is a bench player through and through, and Okoro is a rookie. There's room for Nance to get some mins there.

If we pencil in Larry for about 25 PF/C mins and a handful of SF mins, I'd like to see him push 30 mpg next season. his on-off statistics paint a pretty clear picture. his teams do better when he's on the court. even if the eye test may suggest otherwise sometimes. he's prone to getting beat up, so I worry about increased mins in that regard. But the team owes it to him and themselves to give this a shot.

It's crazy, how fast Nance improved his game. He went from being only a high flying dunker to scoring threat..You also gotta give him props for understanding his role while being the leader of the team...

He somehow had a negative net rating, I thought he was the best player on the court.

No, he was +3. 13 points, 13 rebounds, 8 assists, 3 steals, 2 blocks and only 2 turnovers in 34 minutes. Yep, best player on the court considering offense, defense, and rebounding. When you consider he hasn't practiced in 4-5 days due to a concussion it was a terrific performance.

I think he could very well be better than Love at this point.
