What Will the Next Cleveland Contender Look Like?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
If all those kids are regulars over the next two years, we will be lesser contenders than we are now.

I think it's likely a few flame out or injuries happen, and surely injuries can impact things. This is more of my guess ay who could be there in 2-3 years. I think that there are multiple possibilities within our system now for every position (OF is a bit thin) is what excites me the most.

It would be nice in Cincinnati stays competitive in the NL Central and Suarez continues to struggle at SS. Would be a logical team to want Ahmed.
theyve already got a bad field, bad hit ss

My thoughts,,,
After yesterday, I'd be surprised if DJohnson makes it to next week.
I think Miller and Valera will be stars some day.

But to be a serious contender, I mean for the whole ball of wax - you've got to get lucky. Draft a prodigy like Manny Ramirez (13th pick) or Mike Trout (25th pick).
Jim Thome was a 13th round pick. Now he's in Cooperstown.

The Indians of the 90's had the perfect storm of great draft picks, mixed in with super trades and usable FA's.

Jet zoomed back to the alternate site a few minutes ago..

Meet the 2021 Columbus Clippers

Adam Jardy
The Columbus Dispatch

MEET THE PLAYERS

Joey Cantillo
Vitals
: 6-4, 200
Age: 21 / Bats-throws: L/L
The skinny: A starter who doesn’t throw hard, but possesses a “Vulcan” changeup that reaches the upper 70s.
Looks like this writer made an assumption because Cantillo was at the alternate site (to be fair I never saw a Columbus roster released). He is going to be at AA Akron.

Yep, I was literally just about to update my original post. You beat me to it! @Derek

What makes you say this? The Indians were a game way from the title without doing so. The team in 2017 should go down as one of the best teams ever to not win the title.

What prodigy was drafted in San Francisco as they won 3 out of 5?

I'd say we've already done that anyways.

We have perennial MVP and Cy Young candidates that weren't on many people's radar until they were suddenly dominating.

I'd call Lindor, Jose, Bieber, Kluber, Bauer all prodigies on that level (and yes, we didn't draft everyone on that list).

As of today, I wouldn't include any in the same conversation as Thome, Manny, or Trout.
Nobody is Trout.

Lindor averaged more WAR per year for us than Manny or Thome. All three were around 5 bWAR per year.

2016-today, Jose Ramirez is on a torrid pace to join that group and be the best of the bunch.

Kluber topped that number from 2014-2018. Bieber is obviously topping that number.

I probably overestimated Bauer a bit.

Good point on the Giants. They had Posey, role players, and some very good pitching.
But typically, if you're not going to play in the FA market, you have to have some occasional luck in the draft, or build a super deep farm system like the Rays.

What Will the Next Cleveland Contender look like? Well, maybe like this.
