WWE/NXT/AEW/NJPW Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
What a disaster of a main event.

Rest of the show was fine. IC title match was the highlight (besides Shane blowing out his quad).

Not sure if I’ll ever go to another Wrestlemania, but I had fun at this one.

Because that's what wrestling is man :chuckle:

You take the time and effort to build up a big megastar, then you use that big megastar to put someone else over at the right place and the right time.

And when you do that right, then you have two megastars instead of one.

A concept that has existed since the start of the business.

Ok, but who is going to be a megastar here?

Cody couldn't even be a megastar in his own fucking company, but you expect him to turn into John Cena in the WWE? I dunno, feels like people have a much higher opinion on Cody than I personally do. Further to the point, I don't see anyone that Roman defeated that would have gotten that rub, sans maybe Zayn.

The only guy I'll even table a debate on is Zayn. The rest have been middle of the road, average challengers, and that includes Cody Rhodes.

I'm not even a Cody fan, but at some point you gotta put somebody over and make a new star, right?

WWE credibly built up three different challengers at venues that were absolutely rabid for them to go over - Drew in Wales, Sami in Montreal and Cody tonight - and opted to pass on all three.

I dunno man.
Dwayne vs Bloodline is all they are thinking about from the end result today

Cody tore his pec, fought, put on a hell of a match with move after move. Don't think I ever seen it before. He deserved the coming to Dusty moment tonight. I don't care about Backlash, Summerslam, etc, Mania was his spot.

Whether you like it or not, Cody is the new face of the company. I don’t believe that’s really up for debate.

I agree that the build was mediocre, but that’s mostly on Roman, in my opinion. He’s a crummy champ. Never on television and wins every match with a dozen ref bumps.

Get the damn belt off him. Anything is more interesting than this.

I didn’t watch but Jey being the one to dethrone Roman after all this time makes the most sense.

I don't necessarily think a guy has to become John Cena (one of the 5 biggest stars in the 70-year history of the company) to be considered a big star.

Roman Reigns, who I am a huge fan of, isn't as big of a star as John Cena and never will be regardless of how long he holds the belt or how often he gets smashed over.

But Roman is still a really big star in this current climate. And they had the opportunity to create another star at roughly Roman's level or slightly below and bizarrely decided not to multiple times over.

If Jey is the guy then wtf were they doing the past two months? Seriously, make it make sense!

No disrespect to you or to Jon Alba, but Jey Uso ain't winning the belts under any circumstances. And if he does, then WWE and the people in charge of the company creatively are even dumber than any of us could have ever imagined.

A lifelong tag team wrestler who also happens to be a fucking twin on top of that isn't going to end a 1000 day title reign. Get real :chuckle:

I think one of the biggest problems with WWE creatively is that they've convinced themselves that simply putting someone in the main event is what makes that person a big star, and we all know that isn't the case.

They actually have to win to get made.

It fits the story the best from the beginning of Romans title reign until now. Jey is much more than some “tag wrestler” at this point. He could easily win MITB and cash in on Roman at Summerslam. The reaction he would get for finally standing up to Roman would be massive.

Good, we agree.

Oh I disagree. He gets help, for sure, because he's bit of a chicken shit, but he still comes through and has great matches with numerous guys. And I find him genuinely entertaining.

I disagree.

That's fair.

I think I disagree here. His career is mirroring Cena pretty well, but he's also the main champ during unprecedented growth worldwide and is apart of one of the hottest WWE angles...ever?

I don't think they've missed a lot of shots over these last few years. Again, I feel the only guy they may have missed on is Zayn. I don't see it in Cody at all. You can point to crowd reaction tonight, but I can point to a hand full of guys who main evented Mania, got a big reaction, and ended up fizzling out. I don't see it in the cards for Cody.

I'm not going to argue with you about this. All I can say is that this is not a thing :chuckle:

Jey Uso is not winning the WWE or Universal Championship under any circumstances. Ever.
