WWE/NXT/AEW/NJPW Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Blackjack Battle Royal was maybe the best Battle Royal I’ve seen.

Give me a Swerve/OC singles match now.

Cole/Jericho was meh, crowd was flat. I’m just glad Cole won.

Tag title match was a pleasant surprise. Woke the crowd back up.

Pretty average PPV until the last two matches went absolutely bonkers

Kota Ibushi inbound?

I might be over reacting, but this might be AEWs worst PPV. Especially with how the last two matches happened

Anarchy in the Arena isn't really my cup of tea, but I at least give them credit for breaking up most of the pin attempts in the last 10 minutes instead of having guys straight kick out of absurd stuff.

What would be an okay storyline with Goldberg putting someone notable over, or picking up loose ends with a certain former WCW guy..

You didn’t like the last two matches?

Anarchy in the Arena, at least to me, feels like one of those concepts that has no middle ground.

If you like that style of wrestling, and most people who watch AEW regularly do like that style, then you absolutely loved that match.

If you don’t like that style, then you probably thought that match was pretty goofy.

I certainly don’t like that style at all, and in particular really dislike a few guys in the match, but they all worked hard, had a good storyline advancing finish and the whole thing was at least a built up appropriately.

For me, really thought the title match should have went last. I know AEW doesn't always end with title matches, but with this being a pillars match, it should have main evented. The match itself was fine, especially the finish. Never been a fan of the your turn my turn type matches. That's what this match seemed like for most of the match.

Anarchy in the arena was solid as well, but it was just all over the place. Commentary was confused at times, big moments were happening and we didn't see them at times. Fits the name the match, but it was tough to follow.

They need to end the mask reveals though, especially if it's someone already in AEW.

Besides Cole/Jericho, I enjoyed the rest of the show. Royale was great with Swerve continuing to show. FTR/Lethal and Jarrett had a solid match with great spots.

All the rumors of Hayter being hurt turned out to be true, so it made sense to have the match go the way it did. Loved Jade vs Taya as a match, and Kris coming back and beating Jade.

Wardlow/Christian and HoB vs the Acclaimed were solid matches as well. Wardlow continues to show his more than just a power guy. I'll always be happy to see Christian in matches and performing.

Looking forward to Wednesday and seeing how things shape up for Wembley.

Anarchy going on last made sense to me because of all the clean up that would need to happen if you were going to have another match after.

As far as the chaotic presentation, that’s kind of the point, but I get why that might not enhance the experience for some.

Personally, I rate the last two matches about as high as I can. Battle Royal opener was great. Ladder match was great. Tag and trios title matches were good. Cole/Jericho disappointed me, but it was fine. Sad to see Hayter out, but hopefully she’ll be back to reclaim the title at Wembley. Jade looked fantastic in a solid match with Taya, but the win for Statlander was a hell of a moment. I hope they run that back, push each other to the limit, and give Stat a clean win.

I understand from that aspect, but I just thought it would have been better for the title to finish the show, especially with how it ended up ending.

Im looking forward to Jades run at the womens title.

All I know is we better get an Omega/Takeshita match out of this

Battle Royale was fine. Made me wish it had just been Swerve v. OC in a singles, but they can always do that later on. It did somewhat unintentionally highlight how many quality guys AEW has that aren't really doing anything important though. Maybe the brand split will help.

Cole/Jericho sucked. Slow paced with a dead crowd.

FTR v. Jarrett/Lethal had a far too long heat segment on Cash which also helped a dead crowd stay dead, but everything after that hot tag was classic Memphis shenanigans which I'm a big mark for.

The ladder match was fine, but it also had that absolutely bizarre and laughably bad "Arn bites the thumb off" spot which is something truly straight out of WrestleCrap. I genuinely think Arn can legitimately claim the worst run in the entire company since its inception. Everything he's done has pretty much been absolutely rotten or unintentionally "we're laughing at you" funny.

It stinks Hayter is injured. But did they really have to do so much nonsense just to get the belt off her? She gets brutally beat down before the match. There's multiple interferences and saves. She gets sprayed in the eyes during the match. She gets "thrown" into the exposed turnbuckle. They shoved 5-6 heel tropes into 3 minutes.

Trios Tag was fine and it was good to see HOB actually win clean without needing mist or any other shenanigans. That's how you get belts over. Definitive title defenses against people who are over.

I thought Jade/Tara was mostly terrible, but Jade isn't very good so I'm not surprised. That said, the crowd was surprisingly into this more than other stuff on card. Kris Statlander beating a tired and unprepared Jade is not how I would have ended a 60-0 streak, nor is it a super noble babyface slays an unstoppable heel monster champion booking decision either, but it got a pop.

I generally don't like the modern indie style, which showed up in spades in the pillars four-way, but I surprisingly enjoyed the AEW title match. I think the four-way format allowed all the guys to take the stupidly huge moves and then roll out and sell them versus in a one on one match where they’d have to kick out. Max winning was obviously the only call to make. The headlock takeover thing definitely made me laugh.

The Anarchy Match I personally thought was silly nonsense, but I’m obviously not the intended audience for it. I totally understand anyone who likes that style would have thought it was one of the best things they’ve ever seen. It just wasn’t for me. I did like the finish angle with Takeshita turning which should allow Omega to bring in some of his NJPW buddies for the June event.
